I agree that if we are 6-5 heading into that game, that people will stay away. Still, comparing that to Dooley's last season seems a reach. We all knew that Dooley was done and that he had pretty much lost the team.

I have season tickets and I would go. Especially to support the seniors.

I agree. I think this is the breakout year. Upgraded staff all around, low expectations and plenty of talent all over the roster. If they avoid the injury bug like last year it's going to be a really fun season.

Me too, I honestly think 10-2 is possible.

We get UGA for a third time in a row and either sneak out a W at the Swamp or clip LSU late at home after their annual Bama bubble burst.

If he's fired by us he's not getting a HC that pays a lot.

If he is retained he will need an extension which means his buyout will go up again.

1. He doesn't need a HC job that pays a lot. If he makes 1 million per year (which is LOW for P5 coaches and not outside of reason for a G5 coach), then his buyout drives from 8 million to 5 million immediately. Even an assistant job paying a couple hundred K would make a dent.

2. I'm not convinced he gets an extension if he's kept going into 2018 unless he does better than 8-4 and/or wins the east. He'll have 3 full seasons left on his current contract after 2017. That's not lame duck status by any means. It would just make 2018 make or break for him.

With him making $4 million per year, Butch doesn't have any leverage whatsoever to try and haggle for an extension unless he does better than 8-4 in 2017. If he's in a situation where Currie isn't comfortable enough to extend him and he wants to make a lateral jump, then Currie can call that bluff or let him go. Worst case is we get another school to pay us to hire a new coach who will probably start off cheaper than Butch was.

There's just not a lot of room for him to make legitimate threats about leaving unless he takes a big step forward in 2017.

It will never be cheaper than $8 million. Ever.

Factually inaccurate.

If he gets another job coaching or as an administrator, then 3 years of that salary will be automatically deducted from the $2 million per year we'd owe him after the buyout.

I am talking about the buyout itself. Not talking about "what if some team is dumb enough to pay him millions after we fire him" scenarios.

Also, no team would have to pay him millions to make it less either.

Any coaching job he takes, assistant or HC, for a college or pro team would offset the $2 million/year we'd owe him after the $2 million buyout.

So if he takes a HC job at Southwestern State Tech for $400K/year then that drops it down to 1.6 million/year right off the bat.

So if he found a job that pays literally 1/4 of what he makes now, it would drop the buyout down to $5 million over 3 years.

This circle of life drill between Trey and Kongbo is pure awesome

Please, please, please Coach Wells... Let our lineman fire off the ball and drive people like this! I've had enough of our passive line play where we catch the d-lineman and try to influence where he's going. Shelving zone blocking would be fine with me too... Hat-on-hat!

Oh, and Trey Smith is good at football!

Still factually inaccurate.

Drops to 6 million after the 2018 season.

And we are gonna need to extend him or fire him this fall. Time to make a decision on him. Is he gonna be our coach or not? Kicking the can down the road means restarting his clock.

College football coaches get extended or fired. You can not do what we've done with Serrano in this sport.

5* DE Xavier Thomas just committed to Clemson. SCjr fans thought they had this kid in the bag...lol.

He's been a Clemson lean awhile according to Tiger fans. They're going to land 5 star Zamir White too. Those two with Lawrence is 3 of the top 10 on Rivals. Bastards.

Yeah, you can't let a CFB coach go until his contract expires and just let him go. But if you're comparing Butch in December 2017 coming off an 8-4 season to Serrano as a lame duck whose contract expires in a few months, then you're either being disengenuous or you don't have enough fingers and toes to count past two.

Butch will still have 3 years left on his contract after this season. That's long enough left to stick with the status quo and give him a make or break year in 2018.

I have an idea. Let's discuss the possibilities of CBJ getting fired after this year and how much we would have to pay for his buyout....... Haven't had that conversation in a while.......

Last year was the first year the team didn't improve....please stop acting like we've been sitting at 9-4 for 3 years.

5-7, 7-6, 9-4, 9-4.....

For comparison, here are records by year for two other SEC coaches. Each have been at their respective schools one year longer than Butch Jones. Guess who they are...

7-6, 8-5, 9-4, 10-3, 5-7
11-2, 9-4, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5

There's a sizable group of Jones-haters in this fan base that are absolutely in love with these two guys and would gladly trade Jones for either of them. I can't see why. Both records are very comparable to Jones's iyam. In fact, the argument could be made that these guys have already peaked and that Jones is actually on more of an upward trajectory.

Is anyone on here really in love with Kevin Sumlin? Dude's seat is wayyy hotter than Butch's right now.
