This is not as far fetched as some are making it out to be.

1500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards? Yeah, it's out there. A 1,200/250 for 1450 total yards type season would be outstanding. 2,000 total yards is beyond optimistic/kinda pie in the sky stuff.

Hey, I'm not trying to knock him, he said it was bold prediction....I think it's just a little beyond bold.

I think the offensive line is gonna be top 5 in the SEC, and that will help John Kelly get over 1500 rushing yards, and over 2000 all purpose yards. Hes gonna have a breakout year.

I would love to see it but I have to ask...are you aware of how many P5 RBs managed 2K yards from scrimmage last year? Those numbers suggest more than a "breakout year".

For comparison, here is the single-season rushing record list. Of note, a couple of the offensive lines involved were *slightly* more accomplished.

If Hurd couldn't do it (and I was never on his bandwagon) with all the touches he had, Kelly isn't gonna be able to sniff that.

Bold: Chance Hall will be one of best linemen in the SEC if he stays healthy.

Having a top 5 OL in the SEC isn't all that far fetched. The talent is there for that group. They just need to develop.

2000 all purpose yards or Kelly probably is unless he starts doing returns as well though.

We know Kelly is talented of course. In an ideal situation, I could see him going for 1500 yards. However, with a new QB and our WR corps being mostly young (besides Smith and Jennings), I expect opposing to try and take away the run first and foremost against UT in 2017. If the passing game struggles early on, which is very possible, it could be hard for him to find room as much room running as he did when teams had to worry about Dobbs' legs and Malone taking the top off of the defense.

We don't know how Kelly will hold up being the top guy over the course a full season either. He has a sturdy build, but he's not a big back. If we have to lean really heavily on him, no telling how well he holds up down the stretch.

Kelly having a compact frame is going to help with taking hits a lot. He's not lean like Kamara.

I'm hoping that and the fact that he's going into his third year without much tread on his tires will mean we get a full season of him at 100%. But until we see it, it's a concern in my book, especially with our RB depth almost completely unproven.

Should always be a concern. Injuries do happen. Like in life, you have to have a plan A, B, and C.

No reason for the '17 OL not to be solid, with depth, veterans, and 4/5-star guys all over the place. Sure injuries hurt their production last year, but we are talking about this year now.

RB might be most questionable unit on the team right now ... thus negavols are eager to pick at that and ignore the other units ... but questionable does not equate with sucks, only means not well known at this time how it will turn out. If Kelly can just stay healthy early on, then he will have some reinforcements getting up to speed as the season progresses.

Your first sentence.....replace '17 with '16 and read it again. How'd that go? That's why, imho, a lot of us aren't particularly optimistic about our OL this year. The exact same thing could've been and indeed was said last year at this time, yet the 2016 OL was a weak spot for the team. In full wait and see mode myself.

I agree with being in wait and see mode because OL play hasn't been great since Butch has been here.

But top 5 in the SEC isn't all that unrealistic. That's just the upper end of middle of the pack really.

I'm done guessing and predicting. Not saying much this year. I just want to see it on the field. Tired of getting excited and then....If Butch lays an egg this year.......we'll just see I guess...not much to say.

pretty much agree...aside from the fact that the OL was somewhat ambulatory from the get-go, they never seemed to have the chemistry or will to be the tenacious front they could be. Hope the coaches and players rectify the desire and discipline issues from last year and take it to every opponent for all 4 quarters.

This offensive line will be a lower half umit in the SEC. When they can get 150+ yards rushing against defenses like FL, Bama, and LSU maybe I'll change my mind.

What? John Kelly is as good as Kamara or Hurd and probably runs harder than both of them put together. Ty Chandler is going to be a capable backup as a freshman and will end up with 400-500 yards as a true freshman. Fils-Amin will be a decent third string player.
Now, most questionable unit on the team has to be our secondary, cornerbacks in particular. Without Barnett putting pressure on the QB this year, these guys will be on an island and that doesn't bode well for Mosely, Martin, Buchannan, etc...

Kelly is as good as Kamara? What??? Based on the limited time we have seen him, Kelly is not Kamara. He is not as fast, shifty or the explosiveness that Kamara had. I really like Kelly but lets not fool ourselves here, Kamara was one of the most talented backs UT has had in a long time. And if Butch would have utilized him like he shoukd have, we could have been talking about Kamara being the BEST RB UT has EVER had.

AK is a rare talent. I hope Kelly is even better than Kamara but right now we have nothing to base it on. Runs harder than Hurd? Sorry but no way. Before Hurd became Kim Kardashian, the dude was an absolute force running the ball. There are knocks on Hurd but the dude ran HARD. Just as hard as Henry or Fournett. Kelly runs mean and with an attitude and I love it.
