Which roster and experience level do you choose?

2015 Vols or 2017?

I think they are pretty comparable. That team was a couple plays from 10-2. This team could get there.

Good question. Maybe 2015 only because we had a returning starting qb

Agreed. I've been harping on this for awhile but if Byrd only gets 4 or 5 touches a game on offense he's being way underutilized IMO. He could be on defense where he would have an impact on almost every play.

I don't understand this line of thinking. At corner, he is only going to be thrown at 4-5 times a game and corners rarely have more than 5-10 tackles per game. How is that any different?

A lockdown corner might not get thrown at very much at all. That's because he's shutting things down on his side of the field. The fact that not many balls are being thrown his way indicates that he IS having a huge impact on the game.

But in the same line of thinking a stud receiver gets the coverage shifted towards him, making it easier for other receivers to get open and giving the offense as a whole an advantage.

There are good reasons Lattimore and Humphrey are going to be drafted early first round as CB. Lattimore is a consensus top 6 pick in nearly every mock. He had 41 total tackles, 4 picks, and 9 passes broken up all season (13 games). So 54 recorded stats total all season. Humphrey had 36 total tackles, 2 picks, 5 passes broken up, and a forced fumble. So 44 recorded stats in a 14 game season.

Since opponents have possession of the ball more in one game than either player's total stats for a season and they are both regarded as two of the best by the NFL - their individual impacts on the games are huge as lock down CB's.

Those of us that want Byrd on D have seen him play on tape and in the HS AS game as a CB. We know he is special there. Apparently we will never know if he could have been at UT, which we find very odd when the weakest link on the D has clearly been CB. But maybe he will be a special receiver. Will see.

Which is also a point. He did not show he was a stud receiver last season. In fact he was in the rotation at slot with a mediocre receiver. The stud receivers were JJ and Malone. But again, maybe he is now a top two guy and can make the impact you indicate.

One thing I've noticed in the QB footwork video is QD is always in a stance that shows here's ready to throw. JG's shows he's ready to run. MY OPINION

This. I'm a little old school in the sense that I've always felt that you put your best athletes on defense in many cases. While I certainly trust the coaches to do what's best for the team, I believe Byrd would have much more of an impact for this team at the corner position. If I'm not mistaken I think he preferred playing on defense coming out of high-school anyway.

Rewatching the Mizzou game. Warrior is around the ball on every play. Needs to be a starter this year. May be the most talented kid we have on defense, right there with DK

Really hoping he'll be the starter this year opposite Kelly or Abernathy. Need more playmakers in the secondary.
