Or...he could just be a baseball fan. Doug Dickey attended pretty regularly, if I recall.

Dickey might have attended some games back in the day to blow time, but ADs don't have that much time nowadays. An AD popping into a nonrevenue sport for ~20 minutes unannounced is not a normal event.

That will be my last post on this topic though. Sorry, for bringing info to a discussion that posters were involved in guys.

Which poster is Currie?

Sooo....when he asked your opinion on whether or not we should retain Serrano, what did you tell him? I am just giving you a little grief. If you're going to make a statement like you did , you really should be prepared for people to question where you got your information.

People were talking about wanting Serrano fired, I alerted them to a situation that could give them hope it was going to happen.

Currie being there was a fact. ADs going to games-- especially unannounced-- being odd is a fact. Me extrapolating that to mean he was checking on a coach that he might need to be replacing in his young tenure at UT was opinion.

Don't think we are going to see a runner as durable and fluid as Dobbs at QB for a while.

IMO if they go alum, he should be the one because he has stayed close to recruiting with his camps, etc. Came in second to Serrano last time. I doubt Todd would want to get into recruiting and such, kind of a similar situation with him and baseball as Peyton and football. Would be nice if they could team up and do it together though.

Could be a good indicator of how Currie thinks combined with his marching orders from the higher ups.

Sports radio here said it best. Everyone is excited when you hire an alumni to coach a sport, but remember one day you might have to fire that person as well. Georgetown is dealing with that now, JT3 got fired and Big John Thompson is more then upset. They have a practice arena named after him, a statue of the guy outside the arena, and all of his players from the great teams in the past are around the program. Now they have fired his son, Alonzo Mourning's son is transferring (albeit not a good player anyways), and Ewing Jr. is one of the coaches who could also make his father not come back. A lot of times it is better to hire outside and keep the VFL family happy unless it is a guarantee and that is a very hard thing to find.

I do appreciate your honesty. I have no doubt he was there. I suppose it is plausible for him to be there to listen to what some of the fans are saying, but I still think much more will go into that evaluation than what he overheard at the game. I think if Serrano somehow makes a regional, he stays. Otherwise, he gone. I will go on record as saying it will take a minor miracle at this point for us to make a regional.

I'm pretty sure he will be thought of a lot more fondly down the road a piece. His career highlight reel of just his runs is long and spectacular.

I remember that run the first year he was starting. I think it was against Kentucky. It surpassed the longest run from scrimmage for a QB since the Tee Martin days. The magnitude of the accomplishment sat me straight up.

ADs going to games isn't news. I am ashamed to think Tenn is putting out a future media member that thinks its news.

No way Helton or Burke are qualified to be the next coach at tenn. Not even close

Last guy was more than qualified.

Give me Burke over Helton. Burke wanted the job last time and I think he even got an interview.

I am not one who thinks that former players are the answer. In fact, I usually think the opposite. I don't want Peyton to ever coach here and I'm not one of the people wanting Al Wilson to come back and coach linebackers.

But I'm kinda thinking it's time to go outside the box for a baseball hire.

If Chris Burke wants to be the HC at Tennessee he needs to get into college coaching first.

Don't really disagree with that.

I don't follow college baseball. I don't know anything about the coaches or who we could even get.

I'm just kinda scratching my head that Dave Serrano couldn't do better. Sounds like we are fielding a team of boys playing against men.
