For the last three years, Corey Vereen made a living on Tennessee's defense as that other defensive end. While Derek Barnett wreaked havoc on the other side, Vereen piled up 12 sacks, 16 quarterback hits, 25 tackles for loss and 99 total tackles.
But during Tennessee's pro day on Friday, there was Vereen, along with Barnett, going through linebacker drills. Both could find a home at outside linebacker in a 3-4 NFL defense.
After Friday, that idea doesn't sound all that bad for the 6-foot-2, 249-pound Vereen.
I feel a lot, a lot more comfortable, especially in those (linebacker) drills, with dropping (into pass coverage) and everything," Vereen said. "I feel like it would be a pretty good position for me."
