I love John Kelly don't get me wrong, but we lack proven depth. I really feel like our offense needs a RB with good vision that can make one cut and get into the secondary. A guy that can be hard to find behind the OL and can catch a swing or screen and get a huge chunk of yards. Other than Kelly do we have anyone on campus or coming in that can do this? Fils-Aime or Chandler?

Kamara was a hybrid player. Very special talent.

We won't have one like maybe ever again.

Kelly is his own style and it's a good one. Carlin and Chandler both have speed and quickness. And run hard. Tough guys both around 195 lbs.

They'll get the job done.

I feel like Kelly gives us a good mix. He can find tough yards, especially considering his size. He also has a good burst, we saw him bust a few longer runs.

I agree with littleVol about Kamara being a rare talent. I don't know if we will have another Kamara, but we will find a playmaker which seems more of what you are describing.

I thought the same thing when Cordarrell (sp??) Patterson was here and left, but we found another one. Let us watch this team.

John Kelley is not Kamara, but he is charismatic among his teammates and flashy in a different way. He runs hard, not taking anything away from AK, but I think Kelley is a mix between Hurds hard nosed style at RB and Kamaras shiftiness. Also, carlin was highly rated and I'm excited to see what he can do this year after a year in S&C and film study.

This Chandler guy is projected to contribute, but I will believe that when I see it. It's rough in the streets for a freshman.

The next Kamara won't come here because he knows the first Kamara got benched for Jalen Hurd for God-knows-what reason.

Yes this is part of my remorse. He was so underutilized and now he gone.

The cool thing about Kamara is he was not out of place between the tackles and could pack some power. Or he could make you look silly in space. Or could use the power and break a few tackles if you could get your hands on him in space.

I love how Kamara is now Walter Payton. But he couldn't get into the starting lineup most of the time here.

Yeah it's like they forgot how easily Kamara would go down if someone touched him. Kamara was good, but he wasn't as great as everyone in this thread is making him seem.

Agree. I think much of that has to do with the level of Oline play and outright incompetency of Jones to play Hurd as much as he did.

AK had 103 attempts for 596 yards and 9 TD's= 5.7 ypc and ran for over 100 yards 2 times. These are good numbers but I believe we can get these numbers this year from our 2nd back or combo of #2 &#3. the big question will the ypc go down.
AK best game TAM, 127 yards on 18 carries for 7 yards per carry only negatve was he fumbled at the end of his best run.

Was Kamara the most underused talented player in Vols football history? Yes. Not only was it sickening to witness, it was coaching malpractice at the highest level.

Plenty of people touched Kamara and he kept running.

Did you even watch him play?

All he did was break tackles.

He had over 10 broken tackles against Vanderbilt.

I always thought CBJ ran Hurd to soften up the defense and then turn AK loose on them.

I like having a big bruising RB just for that purpose. With the offense CBJ likes to run a quick hitter is what's called for.

Figure it out Butch.

So you're saying Hurd was like a big ol' fluffer before Kamara laid the wood to the opponent? I actually thought that was kind of what was going on. They ran Hurd way too many times though to try and draw them in. Also would have worked better with both of them in the game more often.

Kelly Will set the single-season rushing Mark this year or next ...

Lots of ifs:

If he is the only option not splitting too many carries because of inconsistent depth behind him.

If the Oline improves a bit with experience and new coaching.

If we lean more heavily on the run because of a new QB.

If he stays healthy.

Lots of ifs, but it would not surprise me if it happened this year.
