Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXIII

Nah. Antonio Callaway is special. Easily the best WR in college football. And he'll be a beast in the NFL right off the bat like Odell Beckham Jr.

Lmao he isn't in the same calibre of OBJ. Callaway isn't even best WR in SEC. ridley and Kirk are better. Good chance Van Jefferson is in that mix of top WR in SEC this year.

You talk like the LVs are a totally different university. I'm not a big women's basketball fan at all, but when they were the most dominant team in the sport that was a sense of pride for me because I love UT and I have so much respect for Pat Summit. That's why I care.

As a university, if you have things you are known for being the best at, you shouldn't take that lightly

This. If they're donning Pantone 151, I don't care what the sport, I get upset when they lose.

Florida has a natural recruiting base that we don't. It goes for football, basketball, baseball, and softball. Does it mean we can't out recruit them? No. But they will on a long term basis. The state of TN is getting much better in football. They also also recruit more out of state in basketball. But it is still something that we have to overcome.

Recruiting base isn't an excuse for state of Tennessee basketball. I grant you the competition is greater than Florida, but Florida kids didn't grow up dreaming of going to Gainesville until Donovan (Kruger's flukish Final Four aside).

Heck, Chiozza is from Memphis and Florida's back to back NCs probably wouldn't have happened without a couple of TN HS players.
I don't think any of that core was from in state for them.

Weak argument.

Since many are expecting the O&W game day to be a big day for commitments, do we know who is planning to be in attendance that day? I scrolled through the threads and didn't see one showing visitors for that day.

Rather than quote each of you, I would like to take this opportunity to point out the smart asseries that you all are. And I'd like to also shine the light on that you guys actually knew that Pantene was a shampoo.

It's odd seeing the dichotomy between the fan's perspective and the coaching community on some of our precious coaches. Martinez and Azzanni are fairly well respected by a lot of coaches. You would think they are hacks from people on here.

Azzanni is a fine coach but nothing special. He's really likable and energetic. Who respects Martinez?

That light you are shining is not nearly as bright as our players' hair thanks the Pantene 151!

(Potential Pantene 151 commercial)

Haha. You just look for my posts so that you can take the other side. Tennessee has very little basketball talent less than 3 hours away. A majority of talent is from West TN, and we all know it's tough for UT basketball to make that pull.

Chris Chiozza went to UF because Josh Pastner didn't make him a priority. If so, he would have most likely gone to Memphis. I will give you Corey Brewer, but we had Buzz Peterson.

Udonis Haslem, Al Horford, Joakim Noah, and Scottie Wilbekin are the 4 UF players that have been named to All-American teams in the last 20 years. Haslem and Wilbekin were from Florida. Horford was in high school in Michigan but was born in the Dominican Republic.

The 2013-2014 Final Four team had Kasey Hill, Michael Frazier, Patric Young, Chris Walker, and Scottie Wilbekin- all from Florida. Casey Prather was from Jackson. I didn't say their entire rosters are from Florida, but when you can fill 1/3-1/2 of your roster from places like Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville then you can pick and choose everyone else. Those three relatively large cities that are less than 2 hours from Gainesville. Florida has to compete with FSU and Miami, and these cities are closer to Gainesville. If UT has to recruit a kid from Nashville, then Vandy, UK, and Memphis are close.

So, yes, UF has an inherent recruiting advantage in almost every sport. I did say that basketball wasn't as strong as the others, but they still do. Oh yea, and kids don't dream about playing for UT basketball either. Maybe if Pearl was able to stick around. But Billy Donovan was successful for an entire generation, and Florida is a dream destination for many athletes who get division one offers.

Donovan maximized Florida's potential in basketball the same way Spurrier did in football. Those guys got those programs rolling and they'll never really slow down for more than a few seasons at a time. Just too much talent in that state.

Georgia has yet to figure it out in basketball, but they're another Florida-esque program that just hasn't found the right coach to get it rolling (obviously they're facing the same situation in football, though Richt did a pretty good job there overall).

Exactly. The talent and the Power 5 money will keep UF relatively successful. Mike White apparently understood the situation. Do I go to UT where I have to recruit against a bunch of high level schools in Atlanta, Memphis, and Nashville? Or do I wait on a warm weather destination where kids want to go and where I have talent around me?

I agree that UGA has yet to tap into its potential in basketball. I don't know what kind of facilities they have, but if they improved them and hired a coach who could keep some of the high level talent in Atlanta, then they could compete for SEC titles.

So who in the East has better returning talent?

Barnett is the big one. The others will be replaced. And the lines are veterans now. The 4-5 star guys are the older guys now so when will they dominate?

Hey man could you do a thread about CB play? I know a lot of people are harping about getting heads turned and all of the typical stuff. I would but it would probably be received better by you... Since I only have 500 or so comments and you have... Well a lot more than that.
