Practice 2 Updates 3.23.17

I get the idea behind it,thought it was cool at first, but now think it's outlived it's usefulness. We've had guys who've played a lot throughout the season and done good things who still had their black stripes on their practice helmets at the end of the season....were they not worthy yet? Had they not proven themselves?

It went from being kind of a pretty cool, accountable rite of passage the first couple years to "why the hell does that guy still have his black stripe on in weekly practice of Vanderbilt week in November?" last season.

I wonder if Blair still has his black stripe on his Kroger uniform while he is bagging groceries.

Disagree. Moseley, Martin, Buchanan, Osborne, Gaulden....we literally don't need even a single true freshman CB to play at all.

Conversely, Byrd is the only other WR who's shown playmaking ability besides JJ since Josh Smith is a physical mess coming off a season with 97 receiving yard. New QB is gonna need some help from somebody who's played a little bit. Maybe Callaway and/or Johnson can offer good support/depth, but they have 8 combined 2016 catches between them.

Plus, I'm banking on our new former military DB coach straightening out a pretty talented group of DBs who have a lot of collective ability and experience.

Callaway got in at the end of the year, mainly on returns and Johnson fought to come back from injury and they STILL only finished 7 behind Byrd and his 15 receptions? If Byrd projects better at WR, I say keep him there, but if he's a great DB who's athletic enough to play WR, it's an injustice.

All the names you mentioned in your first paragraph have question marks. If Warren can improve them, great. Doesn't mean that you disregard transcendent talent because you have "good enough".

So true.. Mosely struggles in that department

Am not looking forward to another season of watching Mosely get burned on every play, scramble furiously to try and run his man down, and never turn his head to track the ball in hopes of even batting one down...

Loose the black stripe. Why is it needed anyway? You mean there's not enough independent motivation out there at practice every day to do your best, be your best, and try and win a starting job at your position? You need the glory of having a piece of tape removed from your helmet to feel fulfilled? I'm old school I guess, but if you need superficial motivation to go out and hammer every day, maybe you don't need to be on the field in the first place? JMO

We do have a new Secondary coach. Those problems should be corrected. Same with S&C issues.

hopefully after this many seasons, they will at least be improved and that is all you can ask for. I am thinking Warren is the real deal and will correct some of these bad habits that seem not to have been addressed.

For me Butch, it's a simple "where is he needed right now" question imho. No doubt he would help the DBs, but we have some talented, experienced guys who can do the job with technique improvements and some discipline.....whole bunch of starts and some good play here and there amongst them. At the WR position however....outside of JJ, we got bupkis.

I'm hoping last year's crop of recievers play a bigger role this year. Josh Smith is a VFL but he hasn't looked the same since that injury in 2015.

Anyone else think TKjr looks trimmer and quicker than last year? He was almost LB size last year.

Good news if Todd Kelly Jr is quicker, because he was burned a few times last year and his level of play will again be key for team 121

S. Jones and Jeff George still looks like they have not been in a SEC strength and conditioning program which is disappointing.

S. Jones did not look to have good form in cone drill either imo.

I know I heard or read it somewhere, but what does "DAT" sign stand for?

DAT means Determination Accountability Toughness
