Walt Wells and the level of OLine development is ultimately going to determine who is the starting QB. We might not know before the start of the GT game, but I bet we know before the end of it.

I think I understand your point, but I think other things will determine who our qb is.....who has a better grasp of the offense, the protections, where to go with the ball/decision making, who the team responds better to, who's more accurate throwing the ball, who can get them out of bad plays, etc.

My guess is that Ainge is right, that no starter will be named, that both QBs will play in the GT game, perhaps a game or 2 even beyond that, until one of them truly separates himself, which is something not likely to happen until both have gotten meaningful snaps in games that matter.

With these guys, the old saying that "a team starting two quarterbacks has none" just is not true. I will not be surprised to see a rotation. Maybe give other teams more to worry about.

We've seen CBJ's offense with a pocket passer and a poor oline before. If we don't finally see a cohesive unit in the oline this season, then I'm worried that physically, Dormady won't survive the year if he is named starter.

I also don't think we are going to find out until we see the line against GT whether or not they are still just give offensive lineman, or they are a truly functional offensive line that's capable of protecting a QB long enough to execute plays that don't require a QB-run as an option on every down.

You can put five five-star linemen in at the same time, but if they aren't coached to work as an actual unit, it's not going to matter how many starts they've had, or how athletic they are individually. If Wells doesn't prove to be a much better coach than Mahoney, we are in for another Worley'esque situation in 2017.

Agree with you 100% that the OL will be key to our success, it has to drastically improve no matter who our qb is imo. That said, the qb who knows where to go with the ball, can be decisive, can check to the right protections, can greatly aid the OL and make it more effective, even hide some discrepancies. JG could be better in most things that QD, but he hesitates and holds on to the ball a second longer than QD, he'll be the one more prone to getting hit/sacked.

Agree. OL has to have great communication, understand calls, be able to correctly pass off stunts, etc....all while playing with a nasty attitude. As you said, a lot more to it than just athletic ability. Unit couldn't do it under Mahoney, gotta pray Wells is a big upgrade teaching and getting the guys on the same page.
