I asked last night, and the consensus here in VN is that Tuttle, Kmac, and possibly 1 other DT are NOT participating in spring practice,, Now with Dimarya Mixon and Charles Mosley both/released, How can the Vols even get any real work done in the Spring.. You cant have A Johnson and Kongbo taking 80% of the reps, or they will both get injured.. Not good for a new Oline and Dline coach to get any work done, ,Yes, this worries me..

Picou? They say he has been working hard and getting stronger. Bain? He's a big ole boy and made a few plays late last season.

We'll do what we can in the spring, then more help on the way this summer. :dunno:

dang that really stinks. I highly doubt Tuttle is ready until Midseason at least. Kmac has been a major bust so far, hoping he stays healthy and has a good season this year. Man DOB was an idiot but he puts any of our current DT's to shame.

Spring DTs will be Johnson, Kongbo, Picou, Bain, and walk ons.

Would have been nice to get more of our DL class from 2017 to get on campus early.

If Tuttle isn't ready until midseason, I say redshirt him.

Give him a full season off to heal, and then spend spring/summer 2018 turning his body back into a football weapon so he can fully utilize his talents.

Are Picou, Bain, Vickers all chopped liver or something? We have 4 dedicated DT bodies for Spring ball. We 2 more DEs who got a lot of reps in 16' inside. We've got two stud DTs returning in the summer plus 2 true FR defensive tackles coming for fall camp.

Let's try to dial the drama back just a little, lest we are forced to have another march in the streets of some sort.

Vickers, Picou, Johnson and Kongbo (assuming he's staying there) at DT this Spring. Couple of walkons there too (Cave and Bain).

Prett sure Vickers is out for the spring.

At the very least, he won't be full go.

Picou and Bain are still mostly unproven, though they are a little battle tested now at least.

Vickers is not full go for spring.

Against SEC rushers, it may be a very long year up front on D. I feel like this is the 4th season in a row at least one position was decimated by injuries in spring camp.

I know this is a hard statement, but. Tuttle an Kmac have added very little to the production of this team due to injuries. To expect more than this from them is "reaching". The thing to do is move on and if they can produce that's more the better. But just expect the same and be surprised if they can improve as to health and (this is the big one) stay that way long enough to get enough playing and practice time to become the players we thought they would be.

I understand this, but they've both got two years left of eligibility. There's time for KMac to develop.

As for Tuttle, he's been productive when he's healthy. If he has a chance to get a fully healthy season in the books for us, I expect we'll be really happy with the results.


But IM(uneducated)O, he might be best served taking a RS and letting his body get fully healthy before coming back.

I keep remembering an injury-prone Maggit taking that approach in 2013 and the 2014 team getting a great boost from it. I'm probably projecting a bit there.

Mosley lost has zero impact.. never played a snap at DT

That's 6 in the rotation and Mixon was never going to contribute at Tackle.

The one positive for this spring is that Johnson will get all the snaps he can handle. If he really has the potential as we were lead to believe, this could be his opportunity to prepare him to contribute in the fall. He will be one to keep an eye on.

Mixon was in line to give vital depth at DE this in a rotational role at least. Losing him isn't the end of the world, but he was 25% of our returning players with D1 experience at DE (and another 25% has moved to DT).

Kmac has been underwhelming, to this point, but we'll see how it shakes out, in the end. He still has enormous upside, Imo. As far as Tuttle, I said last year he should Redshirt and get completely healthy before playing! Tuttle ended up playing and getting reinjured and here we are a year later in the same predicament. If he can get healthy, we have one of the best DT's in the SEC. Jmo

A change in coaches and a couple years of growth and maturity could make a big difference for young DTs. Too early in the year to freak out. Go Big Orange!
