I'm ok with the full years pay, it's the asinine buyouts for failures worthy of being fired, that amaze me.

Let them make ridiculous amounts of money for succeeding as you suggested (huge incentives for success) but rewarding people for failure is just a bad business model in any profession.

I see your point, but if the Volunteers can get a win here there's reason for hope. You said it, this is a tough set up. Tougher than many realize.

Were you also concerned when Tee Martin was a junior and took over for Manning? Dormady might just be the one to take over for Dobbs, as a junior......

Pro-style QBs don't seem to work in Butch's system Guarantano, should, be a better fit, but whomever gets the nod, QB play play is going to depend heavily on how much improvement Wells can get out of the oline before September 4th. Tee Martin would have been killed behind the 2016 offensive line.

I know it won't happen but I would love to see performance based deals for that magnitude of money, make a return. You know, like the rest of us have to do... produce impressive results and poor results worthy of being fired, aren't rewarded.

Here's Fulmers new contract in July 2008 just four months before being fired in Nov 2008.

Fulmer's seven-year contract escalates to $3.3 million by 2014, the final year of his deal, and averages $2.99 million. Included in the contract are annual raises of $150,000 each season, although Fulmer can earn an additional raise of $100,000 for playing in the SEC championship game, $150,000 for a BCS bowl berth without winning the SEC, $350,000 for an SEC championship or an $850,000 raise for a BCS national title in any year of his contract.

Fulmer's previous one-time bonus structure remains in place, which ranges from $37,500 for a non-BCS bowl berth to a $250,000 bonus for winning the BCS national championship.

"I think (Fulmer is) under appreciated in a lot of ways by a lot of people because he has been here so long," Hamilton said. "But I can tell you in comparing him to other coaches around the country, he's clearly one of the best. His record reflects that and his persona and character reflects that when you're around him on a more intimate basis."

Additionally, Fulmer will automatically receive a one-year extension if the Vols win eight regular-season games, and his contract calls for a $1 million longevity bonus to be paid in December 2012 to reward him for 20 years of service as head coach.

As he figures his job is on the line, my guess is Butch will be too conservative to start an unproven redshirt freshman. Dormady will be the starter, but if things go south early in the season he will play Guarantano or Jones to show the admin he is at least trying in the hopes of saving his job. Sad, but true. Butch's conservatism is one of his major faults.

Yeah, it's almost like Butch and Co are using UT's recent coaching instabilities against us. How much are they willing to pay to keep me here and give the program some stability albeit mediocre?

This whole season.... everything. Butches job, these players time at UT and their careers. A total revamping of the football department comes down to one thing. LIne play against salami. If we play well against salami's line we got a season, if not it's just another season and probably an average one at best.

Do you believe these line coaches can get the job done?

Outside of the DL I can't think of any reasons. This year should be at least 5 wins over last year. At least.

Agreed. How about buyouts that are on a sliding scale based on average wins, Championships, behavior, probation violations, APR scores, etc.

I retired here; bought a horse operation. Bethune's sort of a suburb of Camden, which is SC's largest horse racing/training/hunting locale. 'Spent most of my life in the other SC...Southern California. 'Lived in the Hollywood Hills working in the music and tv industries, then finished the last decade of my career as chief producer and director of A&R for a record label in Austin, Texas. 'Just finished an action/adventure/sci-fi novel that's been picked up by a major publishing house. You:crazy:, bumpkin?

Butch knows how to beat Georgia and figured out how to beat Florida this year. As long as we can keep beating those foes on a regular basis, I think the Vandy and usce wins will follow.

Honestly yes, I was. Nobody thought we would do well that next year. But our defense was amazing that year and Tee turned out to be a great game manager. I hope Dormady can do the same!
