Reasons to be negative about the 2017 season

It didn't. Burning freshman OT Tatum's redshirt had nothing to do with giving up 49 points to Alabama. We could've been 100% healthy everywhere that day and we weren't staying close to those guys. Also, that's the only game Tatum played in.....doesn't remotely explain the losses to TAM, SCar and Vandy.

Btw, he weighed 265, not 230.

Not sure why you brought AL up when our crazy adopted gator was talking about two other teams. Guess it was my Tatum reference? Anyways, It's not just him, so many guys were playing different positions towards the end just to fill in holes.

But since AL was brought up, 123 other teams aren't staying close to those guys either.

Well, to be honest, the QB position is the real question mark here. We've never seen either of these guys long term enough to tell how they'll lead the team. Dormady only got spot mop up duty and it was definitely not enough to tell how he'll handle real pressure. And JG is a compete wildcard. Here's to hoping the position is one of strength next year, but that is a huge hope.

The ways we lost last year.

Who we lost to last year.

The ways we won last year.

The only thing negative for 2017 is the worry that 2016 could happen again.

Will 121 be like 120 or 119?

2017 will be a great year.

Y'all are getting worked up over last year.

Leave that past in the past.

Learn from it and move on.

Release the Beast!

Yeah. We stayed close a year before...on their home field (could have won even). Last season, it wasn't happening regardless. Not on that day. I hate Bama with a passion, but there is no denying, they came in with the plan to steamroll us, and there was no way we were stopping them.

We looked good last year at times and we looked bad last year at times...The players that made us look good last year (Dobbs, Kamara, Barnett, Malone) are gone....Scary but exciting....Go Big Orange...

Dormady's limited game experience gives him a slight advantage over Guarantano coming into the QB competition . Guarantano was rated as high as hurts and manziel coming out of HS. There's a good chance he may be the starter, if not he may be on the field before seasons end. Both have skill sets that look promising. Gonna be interesting.

Enjoy Butch whilst you can

This will likely be his last on Rocky Top

He will need to win the east or beat the holy crap out of Alabama to make it to 2018

9-3 would be lights out. 8-4 is reasonable.

If both of those records have us going 5-3 in conference play I'd agree, but I don't think 8-4, with a conf record of 4-4 again is going to inspire much confidence in CBJ as an SEC-caliber coach.

7-5 with losses to Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and USCe will have Butch looking for a new job if Currie is deserving of the AD position.

Can we all not just root for the fellas out on the field in Orange? Been a Vol fan since birth and even through the tough years where we weren't doing so well and expectations weren't high I was excited as h*ll that it was Football Time in Tennessee. If you don't get excited and in positive spirits (positivity will be a by-product of excitement) that it's football season you might want to switch the sport you're watching to soccer. If you don't get excited and are positive for our Boys in Orange to run through that T on Saturdays you might want to hang up the ole UT jersey and hop on the bandwagon for Clemson or Bama.

9-3 or 8-4 he isn't going anywhere. To high of a buyout. End of 2017 is year one of 8 new coaches. 14 kids instate 4* or better.

I like you way better in the PF. :) :hi:

I am really concerned about the o-line, as well as breaking in an inexperienced QB with the o-line issues we have had. Even more troubling is the fact that we replaced our o-line coach with a guy who was already on the staff as a quality control guy. If he was the answer, why didn't the o-line perform well last year? As if that wasn't enough, we have an offensive coordinator who has never been in that role before. I could see us having a lot of games where the offense really struggles like it did early in the season last year.

Butch isn't getting fired unless he goes 5-7 or worse. I don't see the AD letting him go with all the new coaches.

agreed....that and who the heck is this AD going to hire? how is he going to get everyone on the same page about a) firing jones and b) hiring the next guy? that's a lot that would have to happen in, really the next 9-10 months.

for Jones to get fired after '17, it'd have to be such an epic meltdown, that there literally isn't a choice but to fire him.

and while i'm fairly pessimistic about '17, i don't see this team being dreadfully bad either.

7-5, or 6-6 if five or more losses are conference games should get him fired. That should get pretty much any coach in the SEC fired. Given that it's year five and CBJ hasn't won more than 5 conference games in a single season since he left the MAC, he can't afford to regress at this point.

I see 9-3 as the absolute ceiling, but 7-5 would not surprise me given our recent track record of blowing a game or two to lesser talented teams (freaking Vandy). I'm leaning 8-4 with losses to Bama, LSU, Georgia, and Florida. But I'm still not sure, there are just too many unknowns.
