According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Browns are considering releasing Brock Osweiler.

"This report comes just 20 minutes after the Browns acquired Osweiler from Houston in a bombshell trade nobody saw coming. It looks like there's a good chance Osweiler will never play a down for Cleveland as the Browns will simply absorb his $16 million salary and move on. Cleveland has all the cap space in the world so the $16 million hit isn't a big deterrent. Perhaps the Browns will package their first-round pick with the 2018 second-rounder they just received from Houston in a trade for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo."

If the Browns use Osweiler as a means to an end to acquire Garoppolo, then this was a great move.

If they simply wind up cutting Osweiler and go into 2017 with Kessler paired with Trubisky, Watson, or Kizer, then this move was incredibly stupid.

Because this is the Browns, it will almost certainly be the latter. Even worse, they could decide to keep Osweiler.

Yeah, but they could also pay him something like 10 million as a bonus up front and then trade him to a team looking to sign a QB for something like a 3rd or 4th round pick potentially.

If they're able to do turn the deal into essentially paying 10 million to load up on more draft capital, I think it's a smart move for them. Cleveland is more than just a QB away.

For as much of a **** franchise the Browns have been forever, they made some extremely good moves this FA season. If they are simply buying a 2nd rounder for 16M to either draft at that position or use for a trade package for Jimmie G, I dint have a problem with that either if you consider they had 100M in cap space.

And there's also the potential that they can trade Osweiler to another team and take less than a 16M hit as well.

The Browns drafted 5 WR's last year and all of them sucked. Pryor in his 2nd was the only one that did anything and they will probably lose him. They just paid $10 mill for a 2nd round pick and will have to release Osweiler. You can aquire all the draft picks you want in Cleveland, but until they prove that they can actually make good draft choices, what good is it?

Obviously last year was a set up for the draft and they have as many picks next year as they do this year. TBH we probably won't see this come to fruition until next season.

Here's the question Mr. Football. Who would you take number one?

They drafted pretty damn well last year. They take Garrett and LF in the first round this year it will be a home run. I hate admitting it, but the Browns taking Dobbs in the 2nd looks like it's probable. They would be the only team to take Dobbs before 5th round but the dominoes, especially since the Pats don't seem to want to trade Jimmie G, seem to have fallen Dobbs way.

They gave up 66 sacks last season. That's 12 more than the team with the worst offensive line the year season before, and the second worst allowed in the last 10 years.

Even with the QB not being good, that high a number is indicative of bad offensive line play as a total unit, even if 1 of the 5 starters is one of the better left tackles in the league.

they have greatly improved their Oline in the FA this year

Wrong. It's split pretty much 50/50. The kid has an attitude problem, does NOT want to be a brown, has been about as insulting as he could be to the Browns. Flat out said he wouldn't do well in Cleveland because it's cold. Not to mention he pretty much mailed in the last half of the season, and we've had SUCH good luck with TAMU kids right?Barnett is a much better choice, not number one though. Shoot for Banett number 12 and that leaves number one wide open at this point.

I don't know exactly why a lot of people are saying these moves are terrible. I think what they have done up till now is complete genius! Furthermore, if they can make the trade with Brock and get G from New England I think it would be a great move on the browns part! I have studied quarterbacks for a little while and G is up there in quarterbacks I have studied... He has solid footwork, he is a pretty smart guy, has a nice throwing motion, knows where to go with the ball, and if all that isn't enough the same people that drafted Peyton said that Garapollo is one of the best prospects they have scouted in recent memory including (Luck) obviously not above him but around the same caliber guy. I really like this guy, he will be a good one.

Yeah, if they can swing osweiller and the number one pick for garoppolo and then shoot for Barnett number 12 I'm happy. That sets them up really nicely. Of course I don't think oswieller is all that bad a QB prospect. I think he was just in a bad place in Houston.
