Cameron Sutton says Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano is ‘amazing’

Doesnt mean its the only way we can win. I believe if Dobbs was a better passer he could have found open receivers when some of those plays broke down or before they broke down.

So...because Dobbs wasnt a better passer and couldnt find the open receivers, we needed him to rush more than 60 yards to win an sec game?

If JG is the better QB, then the recipe for success in 2017 is to give him 6-9 snaps a game until QD quits.

Dobb's didn't have great rushing numbers in HS. Can't really base a players strength or weakness off of HS Stats.

So this is a guarantee that JG with a average rushing yards of 2.5 and QD with average of 4.5 both so so to bad , will be like Dobbs got it.

2015 Dobbs, inconsistent at pretty much any distance, but 2016 Dobbs was more accurate, but he didn't get much help from his receivers, every one of them, even Malone were dropping passes left and right that could have and should have been caught.

With all due respect, there was only one half of one game (Florida) where our receivers dropped passes left and right (Wolf 2, Malone 1, JJ 1, AK 1, Smith 1 iirc) .....and they caught everything in sight the second half. Only other game that Malone didn't catch about everything thrown to him was vs TAM vs very physical DBs who had tight coverage on him and could've easily been flagged a couple times for PI.

I've heard it said that "you don't catch Guarantano's passes...

You survive them."

That would be a great Paul Bain line if it wasn't so true about JG.

If JG gives us a better chance to win, he is named the starter flbeginnibg the day it's realized. If it really up in the air they should rotate out the 1st half, 2 possessions at a time. If by halftime we still can't tell I expect it's because we scored a TD every possession because they both are lighting it up.

If there's a clear #1, he gets 90% of the reps with the 1s in practice.

Release the Beast!

I think both QBs are both really good in their own way. Whoever wins the position is gonna help the team(I hope, lol). They probably won't reproduce the same stats Dobbs did his last year and that's okay, the yards and TDs can be made up by different positions. As long as we win I the stats will take care of itself.By the way,I'm not a big stat guy, each game is different and you can win the games so manydifferent ways.

Dobbs had his games where he couldn't hit a thing with his errant passes. SC was one such game last year. I really appreciate all he did for us with his legs but his inaccurate passes drove me to drink...

You are putting stock in JG and QD stats in mop up roles as being what they will be in starter roles. Please, we got 2 Qb's that are probably more accurate than Dobbs now. 1 that is quicker and a better runner, the only thing the don't have is much game experience but JG has had a red-shirt year to get ready and QD has been here plenty long enough to know the system. Other team have QB's that come in a do well right off the bat, whoever is the best will start. Personally I think JG wins it, but time will tell. GBO!!!!

Yeah but things broke down every other play. Dobbs was running for his life 50% of the time.

A qb whos first instict is to pass gets the ball to his check down guy in those situations. There are check downs on every play. Ad your 50% number is greatly exaggerated. Maybe in his 1st or 2nd year. Not his last 2 years.

Like many college students, Jarrett Guarantano will be spending part of his spring break at the beach. Unlike many college students, the University of Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback won’t be lounging in the sand. He’ll be training with well-known quarterback coach George Whitfield in San Diego. Guarantano is among a group of college quarterbacks spending this week with Whitfield to improve their skills and efficiency.

...“They are all young and gangly, but he could drive the ball and he could command the ball,” said Whitfield, a contributor for ESPN's "College GameDay." “He is one of those guys who is blessed with tools, but also has enough savvy to time up when their weapons should launch. I remember seeing Jarrett and thinking ‘Oh my goodness.’”

...Rather than growing insecure being around other quarterbacks used to being the “big man on campus,” Whitfield said Guarantano embraced the challenge. “Jarrett couldn’t be more comfortable in the shark tank,” Whitfield said. “Some guys don’t feel comfortable in that environment and others relish it. They’ve been waiting to see everyone and measure themselves. Jarrett couldn’t wait to get there. He had already studied everybody else and knew their backgrounds.”
