shoot the messanger... where i like your message or not i did not take it personal ..like calling some on a internet troll for exampleYou see rcvol wouldn't even try to mix it up. He would claim a law degree from UT and then talk about how we had lost the state to Vandy. You're jumping on the Title IX, which we masterfully settled and a starter who failed drug tests (Tim Williams anybody?) as yours. So maybe you're back rc. Instead of pretending to be a lawyer you're pretending to use internet access from prison. Well played.![]()
Jeez some people on here have to calm down. You're freaking out over us hiring an AD 10X more qualified than Fulmer or Blackburn with Tennessee ties. Making us look like the idiots people think we are.
You're completely misstating the deal here. The only people looking like idiots are the people who just conducted the embarrassing and disgraceful AD hiring process that gave us a guy who further fractures the fan base and donors.
And what can you remotely point to that says Currie is "10x more qualified" than Blackburn....and Fulmer for that matter. Give me specifics.
Finally, a lot of the "ties" Currie has to Tennessee are pissed off right now and have pledged to stop donating to the University for now because Currie is the new AD. As I just heard Hubbs say on 104.5 about 5 minutes ago, Currie has a lot of bridges to build and fences to mend based on his previous stint at Tennessee.....those are some great ties he's got there. Of course, he only needed one, so I suppose that's all that counts.
So Curries hand in managing coaches never has been a selling point.
What Currie can sell? His university. That part of the job made him a gigantic asset to Kansas State and revitalized the athletic department.
In 2010-11, just over a year after Currie took over, Kansas State had the most profitable athletic department in all of college sports. That includes giants like Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Florida and Michigan.
Before Currie arrived at KSU, the athletic department operated at a $2.8 million deficit. By his second year, it was at a $20 million surplus, almost $4 million higher than No. 2 Texas. On the financial side of the job, there might be no one better than Currie, and money can smooth over a whole lot of rough edges.
For the 2014-15 school year, Kansas State raised $34.3 million in private contributions, sixth-most among all athletic departments. For a university in the middle of Kansas far from the oil-fueled, football-obsessed athletic departments in Texas or giants such as Michigan or Oregon thats staggering.
Massaging donations out of the deep pockets of supporters is an innate skill, and there might be no one better than Currie.

John Currie leaves complex legacy at K-State, offers Vols bright future
as i read this article, it became clear why he was hired. and there are some real questions about whether or not anyone making the hire even knew about the potential for strained relationships.
but in the end, you're correct. it's not the hire in and of itself that bugs me, it's the whole process looking like a circus.
I think the rise in donations at K State had more to do with Snyder's return in 2009 as HC rather than Currie's skills. Without Snyder, he would have been hard-pressed to get their boosters re-engaged. JMO.
i just don't have a lot of faith in those folks.
No, but if you get your masters there and put 11 years of "time" there, you have a legit claim.
i think he was the worst hire that could have been made. same for the ding bat that hired him. but both are there and are going to be for a while. i think the better question is why are coaches and players leaving like rats from a sinking ship. we are having more turn over than any school in the NCAA. keep rolling the dice and 7 is going to come up at some point.Perhaps, but Paul Finebaum went to school here and Mike Hamilton worked here and I wouldn't classify them as "Tennessee Guys". Currie may work out but there's enough information coming out about how his dealings with people at UT and Kansas St. to indicate that he may not play well with others. We'll see.
