I was a sub 5.0 in high school but now 40 years later, I am old, fat, broken up and put of shape. I probably couldn't break 8.0. lol

There's really no need to get those veins popping out of your head just because of something some random person said on an online forum. Like damn, do you realize that you just put your entire life and family on the line for a random kid's 40 time? I don't care if it was a joke, you need to lighten up my guy.

Pretty sure you just responded to the wrong guy champ. I haven't put anything "on the line" for anything. Simply posted an interesting article about 40 times. Have a good one.

I know I couldnt now, but I know I could in HS or 2 or 3 years removed. I wasnt on the football team in HS because I did basketball but my buddy was clocked at 4.8 by the football coaches and I know for sure I was faster than him. I know I sound like Uncle Rico right now but...5.0 forty can be broken by a large number of HS athletes. Hell Peyton Manning ran a 4.8 and we all know how fast he was.

This is literally all I was trying to say. Crazy how upset some people can get just because you could run fast in highschool.

I don't think Peyton has ever ran a 4.8. I love Peyton, but I don't think he could run 35 yards in 4.8.

Very, very, very, very few. Not impossible, just 99% of casual fans on here could not. I remember when Travis was still on the radio at 104.5 and he put the challenge out to and all these guys calling in and saying how fast they were in Highschool and college and they could absolutely break 5.0......and all but one who showed up (dozens according to Clay) could not. Many didn't break 6.0.

To that point, a lot of the fast kids in high school, I'm talking about your average mid range school, not blockbuster 5 or 6 A or private schools, say your average 2AA county type schools, their fastest kids running track as sprinters are 5.0 and 5.1 guys. Seen this a couple of million times over the years.

They should grab a hundred guys age 50 and have them run it. Could be sponsored by Budweiser and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Most guys over 40 cannot run at a sprint 40 yards. It's sad BUT, they have the money which is why they can get yo girl if they want 'em! Lol, seen many a 20 something guy crying over his beer wondering how that grandpa walked off with his chick.

Really, seriously, bet you didn't read the article or even just the part about how coaches and trainers steal time off of their kids 40s to make themselves look better. I'm willing to bet my house, car and soon to be first born that you wouldn't run a 4.8 40 let alone the time you posted where your coach started the watch after you actually started and stopped it just before you actually hit the 40 line. Also cutting out the fastest 40yds out of a 100m dash don't count either, although i'd still be willing to bet you still wouldn't hit 4.55.

Our high school football coach was a dick about measurements of any kind. Routinely disqualifying kids for arching their backs on bench, not going low enough on squats etc.. I know for a fact that he was not inflating any numbers to make himself look better.

That said, every starter at a skill position on our team ran a sub 5 40. It's not as rare as you guys are making it out to be. Certainly not 99.9% rare

Another High School Hairy, "every starter at a skill position" ran a sub 5 forty. If you went to Ensworth, MBA, Brentwood Academy, Christian Brothers, or Memphis University School, I might buy in to that. Otherwise, Dear God make it stop!!

Brookwood High School - Snellville, GA

Considering most of us were only measured in the 40 yd dash in high school, it is the only sample we have to pull from. I guess that makes me a "high school hairy" haha

I saw several people that tried break 5.0 at the Super Bowl event in Houston.

Well over 1% of people. Probably like 10%. Granted those guys looked to be in shape and in their 20s. White dudes.

Definitely saw a guy that looked to be over 200 lbs do it at 4.8

It was laser timed by a professional.

Almost none of us can get up off the couch and run sub 4.88 but a lot of us could if we trained for a month or 2.

In high school I thought I ran a 4.56 my junior and senior year. I was very confident in my speed considering I held two track records in the high school I went to (still do to this day).

Went to some camps and was officially timed at 4.72. I was one of the fastest kids in my high school. Went on to play for a small NAIA school. Was one of the slower DBs on the team.

We played South East Louisiana State and lost by over 60. They played LSU next week and lost by almost 70.

My point is nobody understands how special every kid at UT is and how even more special the kids at the combine are...

Bill Murray said all Olympic events should feature one regular person competing just for reference. maybe the combine should do this.
