Currie had better get the job done. It is one thing to make a hire, but if it is a hire in direct opposition to fan wishes, the powers that are had better be ready to brace for the uproar if things go awry.

And what're you gonna do if they do? Not watch the football games!? Boohoo

Who was the reporter interviewing? "Everybody out there" is particularly vague. :)

I've heard similar things from K-State fans and alum. The dozen or so I've talked to are glad to see him go. I'll reserve judgment though, I think he'll end up being an upgrade, even though we maybe could have done better.

Sounds like he's not very well liked among those in the coaching fraternity from the interviews I've heard with people around there. Ran off Frank Martin and rumors of he and Snyder butting heads. Doesn't sound too good to me.

We better hope we don't need to hire a coach if that's the case.

I don't know where he gets his info but I don't KNOW where anyone does.
Apparently (according to him) it is big "names on buildings" type of boosters.

I hope that's incorrect, because that's going to be a hell of an awkward start for everyone involved.

I know one, pretty sizable contributor that isn't very happy.

you??

Seriously, caught a snippet of Brice on 104.5 and he said the fan base (twitter universe) and some boosters were not happy with the hire. Did not hear the whole thing as I was picking up my 4 yr old grandson from school

1. Not a unifying hire...."if TN brass was looking for a unifying hire, this anything but..."
2. Hamiltons right hand man
3. Was point man on unifying boosters in effort to push out Fulmer in 2008
4. Doesn't have good relationship with Bill Snyder at KState
5. Has done some good things
6. Great fundraiser
7. Blackburn wasn't at top like Currie on Hamilton staff .... Currie was Hamilton's "bad cop", rubbed some people wrong.
8. Blackburn wasn't formally interviewed, said many former players and alumni who favored Blackburn feel like they've been slapped in the face
9. Has heard from KState people who are "jumping up and down, are glad to be rid of Currie"
10. Wonders what Butch is thinking about this hire.
11. If Currie gets football deal right, all will be forgiven
12. Gotta get prominent Tennessee people involved....might even see Peyton at presser on Thursday
13. He has his work cut out for him.

Smh

What supports the Title IX/Feminist narrative though? That's where I get lost.

Other than rampant speculation and a half-a$$ game of connect the dots, what else is there?

Please point me in the direction of actual information. If its there, I will gladly consider it but up until now I haven't seen a thing other than whispers, insinuations, and speculation.

Half assed? Are you freakin blind and deaf? What kind of factual info do you think there would be? You think they would just come out and say it? I'm not naive or paranoid. I don't have to see wind to know it's blowing.

Why are we booming on the Beard hire? It seems good to me (young, South Florida recruiting ties) but he has a thin resume with only a couple years of actual position coaching experience and he comes from FIU. Is it because Larry Scott specifically wanted him (worked together at Miami)?

I've got mixed feelings too. It seems obvious he can help us recruiting, but he doesn't exactly have a track record of putting out dominant WR corps or anything.

The hope on my end is that he's at least as good as Azzani coaching but is able to lure in a few WRs that are so good coaching doesn't matter too much.

"Not a fan. Had a few interactions with him while he was here. Hard to like someone who tends to look down their nose at you and just dismiss you.

Maybe he will be a great AD. I have no opinion on if he will or not.

Good luck to him and the athletic department."

Have spoken to one who is acquainted with John Currie from his time at UT; says he has a disagreeable personality (not his exact words), but you catch my meaning.

I don't feel too strongly one way or the other about Currie. He checks the boxes, but has some question marks.

It seems like the people calling the shots mostly just wanted a guy who can keep us financially sound and in order while avoiding scandals. That's admittedly a very important part of the job. Maybe the most important part to University officials. It will be nice to not have to worry about being in a position where we don't have the funds to hire a competent coach again.

However, Curie's track record making hires and maintaining relationships with good coaches is spotty. And that's probably the most important thing to fans and for big time athletic success. Not sure I trust him to conduct a very good coaching search on his own.

Seems like a C+, B- type guy, which is about what we can expect from the University of Tennessee in most regards. Just gotta hope that over the next 1-3 years if/when it comes time to replace some of our current coaches that he either lucks out on his hires or gets some very good guidance from boosters and/or search firms.
