Would this be considered a slap to Fulmer, who was supposedly one of the frontrunners for this job?

I hope not.

I hate feeling negative.

He was involved in firing Fulmer and I'm sure Phil's not happy. They way I remember it is the masses wanted him gone. I was one of those guys.

I'd like Phil to be involved on some way but he had no AD experience and wasn't getting the job.

So if the UT football coaching staff was average, the grade of a C, last year.

How would you rank the average just by comparing them to last year's staff before they even coach a game/season together?

B?
B+?

What's your thoughts?

I've never been the biggest butch supporter but with the staff changes this off season I would upgrade the staff to an A-

This guy is part of the group that fired Fulmer. He's not gonna be bringing Phil back. I'm fine with that.

GFW and even a few in the FF think this is a great hire. Involuntary and others think it's horrible. Basilio acts like it's the death of UT. Has SBV commented yet? Its Gruden all over again- insiders insist our favorite is the front runner, done deal, etc and then when delays start occurring it's "oh that's just to appear like there was a search for the new chancellor" and other excuses, etc and then it's someone hired out of left field. No one but Blackburn or maybe Fulmer would be accepted on here, but I'm willing to give him a chance-at least it's someone with Tennessee ties. In regards to running Fulmer off, I thought GFW said he might come on board now. Info coming from all extremes of opinion.

I doubt Currie had much say in firing Fulmer. The major boosters made that call. Just like the major boosters made the call in bringing in Currie.

It all happened so fast that no one probably really knows for sure at this time.

@YahooForde: Another SEC school makes good AD hire: Tennessee grabs Currie from K-State. Follows Byrne from Zona to Bama. League importing sharp minds

I would still expect Phil to be involved in the new AD's administration at least in an advisory role, if not something more. Currie's tenure at UT goes back to the Dickey days as he worked under Doug from 1997 until 2003. Those were the glory days of UT football. I like this hire. Go Vols. Win Em All......

I don't think the boosters made this hire. I think their inability to agree on a hire led to Currie getting the nod.

You think Fulmer thinks this guy stood behind him or helped swing the ax?

Not sure about his relationship with Fulmer. I doubt he had any say in letting Fulmer go. I may be wrong. I do believe that if he was involved with letting Fulmer go then Fulmer has not let it go.

Currie is TBD, but not a clearly bad hire. Though anyone who was part of the coaching hiring that happened during his time here shouldn't be considered a home run, he seems to have done decently at K-State.

Love the Beard hire.
