Okay, so you both DO know how good she is.:)

That's so cool, I love new kitchen "stuff" especially free and because of an accomplishment. What was the recipe, if you don't mind me asking, obviously not the ingredients, just the dish?

My only "claim to fame" was winning a contest several years ago. In my defense, it was the only one I ever entered.:)

Nice! This was her winning dish.

Sounds good, even though I'm not personally fond of butternut squash. I'd eat it tho.

Don't know if anyone cares or not, but thought I would share.

Until last year, Ive never had any luck with Miracle Gro. I use the crystal type that you add to a container of water. Last year I bought some and had amazing success with everything I used it on.

The directions instruct you to use the small end of the included spoon per 1 gallon of water for indoor plants and the big end per 1 1/2 gallons for outdoor plants and gardens. I started mixing the big end in a 4 gallon bucket filled almost full (probably 3 3/4 gallons), so about half of what it calls for.

This year, Already in three weeks, my plants are just amazing. Growing like weeds and healthy as they can be.

Just fwiw.

Woot woot! Bought two Bhut Jolokia Ghost Pepper plants this morning from Lowes. They're about 3" tall and really healthy.

I don't normally grow hot peppers, just don't have the space for things I won't use a lot of. Tomatoes and herbs fill my space, actually it's all herbs, I have the tomatoes in pots. I learned several years ago that garden plants just won't grow well in sand and I don't have the time, money or motivation to adequately prepare a space for more than I have now. I'm going to grow these peppers in nice pots.

I'm sure you all feel better now for knowing this. Lol.

Sounds like a plan. The wife has a couple large stand-up boxes that we got from Sam's that she plans to only grow basil in this spring. Lots of pesto in our future. Mmmmm

Skinny Chicken Mozzarella with Marinara and Garlicky Greens

That marinara could pass as Pomodoro, which in my opinion is a good thing. It's just so vibrant in color and not so thick as a classic marinara. I like the presentation, because of the greens on the same plate, it looks better with the chicken atop of the sauce instead of it covered with the sauce, which is how I would serve it on the plate alone.

Perfect color on the mozzarella too.

Will she plant seeds or buy plants? No reason for asking but curiosity.

I use basil so much that I usually buy plants instead of fresh from produce packages. Now that it's perfect for a garden, I have 2 sweet, 2 opal and 1 Thai plants that I bought last month. I have probably 30+ more sweet and about half as many opal planted from seed.

Oh, I too will have pesto out the ying yang. When the tomatoes come in, caprese salad will be an everyday pleasure. The opal with a little sweet makes for an amazing presentation.

I'm not real sure. I think she had bought seeds the last two years. The cilantro didn't come in very good last year for some reason, and she is gun shy about that, so that's the reason for all basil this year I guess.

Fawk cilantro. Lol. I've got 6 plants I bought because them sumbiches don't like to grow from seeds in the Behr garden. They pissed me off last year.

I've got....

6 cilantro plants
4 dill plants
2 curly parsley plants and a 1 foot by 6 in space of flat seeds.
4 Rosemary plants
2 Greek oregano plants about a 2x2 ft space of seeds
2 Italian oregano plants and about a 1x1 ft space of seeds
The basil I already mentioned
1 chocolate mint plant

All in my garden

I also have

2 Greek oregano plants in pots
2 Greek oregano in hanging pots
And 10 medium sized pots with some thyme, fennel and tarragon. Lol, I'll probably get a hair and do some more when the mood strikes.

I'm so jealous of the basil gardens. :(

I've found that Sweet basil is the easiest of herbs to grow, Greek and Itailan would be next.

The basil does well in full sun, it'll grow fast and healthy. In part shade, it will grow, just at a slower rate and will be lighter in color and more delicate, but still fine for use. It adjusts well with overwatering and droughting. (Is droughting a word? Haha). The most important thing to remember is to use it. The leaves have to be picked to promote growth, not just more leaf growth. I know that sounds obvious, but most people don't realize how important it is.

Fwiw.

Something else I forgot. My plants are not in the location I would like for them to be. They are where they seem to do best, in the morning sun. Even my tomatoes that like full sun 8-10 hrs. Some of my potted and hanging plants are in indirect to mostly shade, but the herb garden, peppers and tomatoes get full morning sun and early afternoon, about 1-2 o'clock then shaded.

Morning sun is where it's at IMO.
