The reason they are getting Currie is the same reason they wouldn't hire Blackburn.

Interested in having someone they can control. Not interested in winning.

I know the AD is going to get all the attention here, but I'm just getting caught up -- can anyone fill me in on the 247 drama? I knew the Haney article had ruffled a lot of feathers but I had no idea 247 was actively regretting it and that it led to Brice leaving. When did that all happen?

Looks like a great hire to me, TN ties, young and has done well in Manhattan. Whats the problem? Far more qualified than Blackburn.

Not necessarily. He has been an AD about four years longer, that's pretty much it. Blackburn, I think, had more responsibility here than Currie did while he was here. I am disappointed because it is not Blackburn, but I will, of course, give Currie a chance to see what he can do.

Seems like the university is terrified of bad press now. Would rather languish in mediocrity and avoid the spotlight rather than take risks and try to win big.

But going for mediocrity ends up putting you in the spotlight anyways because of embarrassing losses and an overall perception of a "dumpster fire" athletics department.

I'd like to believe you're intelligent enough to get the implication that I'd like to hear you elaborate, but as usual, you chose to be a passive aggressive troll.

Give it a rest. He has done it at a Power 5 school not a satellite school. So yeah far more qualified. Your name calling is weak sauce. Nothing passive about my posts pal especially when it comes to you.

The Haney article came out a few months ago, but I think it severely damaged the GoVols247 subscriber base/profitability, as well as their credibility and sources within the Tennessee AD/football program.

John Brice isn't a company man like Callahan and Rucker are, and he is heavily involved with Tennessee football (appearing on the Butch Jones Show, for example). So he knew the article was a huge mistake.

I'm sure he voiced his opinion on the matter, but they published it anyway, and because he's associated with 247, I would imagine he lost some sources and got fed bad information in a form of retaliation by the football program.

So he started speaking out against the article on Twitter (thinly veiled comments) and Shannon Terry didn't like it and fired him/forced him to resign. Now Terry is acting like he didn't like the article either.

So we have dealt with the Title IX issue and hired a former Tennessee guy with a reputation for running a clean program. Only LOTM could be miserable over that.

As for cheating...do you really think cheating is ever sanctioned by the AD? Even Bama's? Maybe you should study the term "Plausible Deniability". Coach involvement in cheating is what's gonna kill OM soon. If you do it well, there are no links to coaches, and certainly no link to the AD.

In related news, John Currie wants a bigger house in Manhattan and an extension on his contract.

Cunningham played us nicely and now other sitting ADs will likely follow suit. It's December 2012 all over again.

You all realize that he is a graduate of Tennessee and did a nice job while here in the AD along with Blackburn.

AD at a power 5 conference is more than Blackburn has done...

Does that really matter? It's not like Currie is going to somehow be better at the job because he worked at K State and Blackburn worked at UTC.

Currie strikes me as a hired stooge/puppet and Blackburn got passed over because he pissed off some prominent boosters a decade ago.

He's a total compromise hire. That's never a recipe for success.

Lol ok

This is a Mike Hamilton clone.

No thanks. I am not pleased with the hire.

We won't be hit with any sanctions so I guess that is good.
