I like it. This is a very good staff Butch has assembled imo

This is 100% his best staff to date. Butch has made some very nice moves to put together this group.

If Thig would go back to recruiting like he used to that would be nice. If not, that should be the next position that we find a new coach for. If Thig would start Thigging again, I would be all in for the 10th coach being a defensive coach that focused more on developing than recruiting.

I don't know how everyone else feels about this, but I view the 10th coaching spot as a developmental role. I want us to bring in bright GAs or other personnel that lack experience but are very talented and mold them into coaches that could take over other positions if a coach moves on to take a higher up position. What do y'all think?

Us hiring Brown isn't a preemptive move for a change next year is it?

I could see that being the case. Gillespie is very happy here at UT, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got an OC offer next year. His stock has been on the rise for good reason.

Looking at his resume, Brown would be an ideal replacement if it came to that.

People keep talking about how Thig's recruiting has declined, but I really like the group of LBs we signed this year.

Just because it is his position, it doesn't mean that he was the lead recruiter. Of course he was involved in the recruitments, but he wasn't the only coach. I 100% agree with your assessment of the LB class though.

When there was talk about Butch being unhappy with some coaches efforts in recruiting last season, I'm pretty sure one of the coaches he was talking about was Thigpen.

Was in reference to a D4H post in the FF...not profound I guess, but he left the thread and didn't return. So it wasn't a complete waste. Got 10 likes...lol. Threw me right over the top without me realizing it.

That's cause I got better stuff to do. Had nothing to do with your weak post. I actually saw that post for the first time this afternoon. Hence me also seeing this post right now and responding to it.

I just say what I think about the sport and keep it moving. I'll leave the petty personal attacks to people like you.

Student loans are the biggest scam around. They know these kids need the money and they line up to give it to them. Putting them behind the right ball as soon as the graduate. My brother was lucky he received a lot of grant money and scholarships to go to school at Maryville college. Graduated in three years and went out of state to The University of Florida and got his masters in one year. Now he is getting his school paid for and getting a salary from the university of Georgia while he gets his doctorate. In all he is in the hole about 55,000 dollars but people who he works with are upwards of the 350,000 to 450,000 mark.

I agree. It often isn't the loan that's the killer either, but the interest rates they're allowed to charge. I'm fortunate to have a low loan amount relatively. About $35k starting a few years ago. My lowest monthly payment I can make is about $250 and $200 of that is interest. I'm fortunate enough to be able to make higher payments, but I can't imagine a $350k or $450k loan. If simple math holds true here and someone has a loan 10 times larger than mine, that means they may be paying $1000 or way more a month on student loan debt alone, mostly interest. WOW. Ouch.

Martinez and Mahoney had to know their days were numbered. How much effort were they really going to put forth? Thigpen may fall into that category too. Job security is a big motivator.

Prob not a Timeframe on it but your not going to have G forever so you got to have a plan and potential replacement in place for that day. It's not a bad move at all to potentially already have that guy around establishing relationships. Also it could mean nothing as brown apparently has just been in Knoxville and wants to work

Not that it would carry any weight, but Saturday's down South has a story of Cutcliffe pushing hard for Fulmer as AD.

Maybe he wants to coaching job lol

If nobody else will, I will say it; because she is a female. With all the Title 9 crap, a woman was going to get the nod if all else was equal or even close to equal. All JMO.

Just searching for likes IMO.

(I was going to say you were a "Like ___" but I thought better of it :))

So in other words, if we had a normal and functioning athletic department I would agree with you. But we don't. And we hire people like this Cincinnati lady who don't understand the culture and will screw it up if given the chance.

Wait, this hiring mess has been going on for ages and could've been done before she was even hired yet even though she's been on the job a mere few weeks it's her fault?

The dysfunction at UT is hardly the new guy's (in this case gal's) fault and it's pretty silly to assert that it is. This is especially true when we know a great many things about the problem with the AD hire stem from boosters fighting over getting their guy and/or preventing someone who embarrassed them from getting the job.

so the search firm has contacted him? Isnt that pretty much the same thing?

They get permission to vet, ask questions, talk with references and other sources. This firm is to provide a short list of qualified candidates for UT's committee to interview personally. David's response to our mutual friend was no "direct" contact with UT about the job.

My personal opinion is that he and Fulmer will be in the final mix with a couple others to be brought in for interview. I have not heard if the cake is baked yet, so I suspect it is not.

According to my source, David does not feel very confident that he's getting the job.

Then just hire Fulmer and be done with it. At least e loves UT and cares about winning in the football program. I trust that he is smart enough to assemble a great staff and be successful. Just hire him already. This is embarrassing

We had our own problems before we brought her in. My guess is that she will just be another one. Starting to sound that way. She no doubt senses the lack of true leadership and will likely try to make her voice heard.

My point is that she isn't gonna be able to save us from ourselves. She knows jack about sports.
