Stupid, that seat isn't hot yet. One disappointing season does not warrant a hot seat.

Disappointing? Well yes, but by who's standard? Nine wins ant too bad. Just not 10 or more. All things considered, nine wasn't too bad. What really looks less than good is how we won most games and how and to who we lost most games.

Can't ignore the injuries we had...which were devastating. What concerns me more is the drop in recruiting. Last yr 14th and this yr same thing basically. Gone are the days we could say how great of a recruiter Butch is. "5 star hearts"? Omg. And what the hell with Kamara? One of the top rb's in the draft...yet was a friggin back up until Hurd left.

No excuses this year...and no way he can use "lack of talent" as an excuse when HE is the one responsible for the talent that is already here. If we don't have talent...it's Butch's damn fault. 2017 is ALL Butch. I'm rooting for him..but this is all him.

Sorry, but I don't buy for a second, you are pulling for him. What would you guys have to write about if it turns out to be a successful year? I know, you will go back to how he should have done better in 2016..

If we lose to GA tech right off the bat, he's on the hot seat

Playing Tech is no easy task for any team that never sees their offense. Well be a tough game. With d-lineman having to run laterally on lots of plays, hope for no leg injuries. This will be a rough tough game.

^^^^ That's truth right there! ^^^^

LSwho fired miles and Ed the Ogre was the best they could get, LMAO!!!

Most people can't even understand what he says.

Just more ignorance from the

Extremely
Stupid
People
Network

VFL...GBO!!!

The people that need or want to understand what he says, understand. Its La., for the most part they don't care if you understand them or not. I expect if the team wins, he will get most all the La. players he wants. And La. will not gave a damn if you understand them or not.

Here is where I get confused. I'm Not criticizing anyone here, just trying to understand.

Wise makes his statement that if Butch wins 9 every year, he's here til he's 65.

102455 makes his statement that if he's fired after winning 9 every year, no "smart" coach would want to be here.

BV seems to think 102455 thinks Butch should keep his job if he wins 9 and not making the SECCG.

My question is, does Wise and 102455 actually think Butch "should" keep his job if he wins 9 but doesn't win the East?

I ask because, I agree with both Wise and 102455. I've made similar statements. But, just because I think that, doest mean that's what I think should happen, or want to happen.

Maybe I'm wrong, Wise and 102455 May think he should keep his job by winning 9 whether he wins the East or not, but that's why I'm asking.

"I'm so confused!" (Laughin from long ago)

Why ain't every coach in the sec on that list besides saban. Nobody finished better than 4 losses and we are mad at Butch.

Expectations and where coaches are in their coaching tenures at their respective schools.

Malzan has been on the hotseat despite playing in a national title game a few years back and likely would've been fired last year had LSU's apparent game-winning td not been called back.

Stoops was in trouble, even at Kentucky last year, before finishing strong

Bielema's catching heat at Arky.

The Florida faithful is not at all happy with McElwain despite playing in back to back SECCGs the last year's, his first two seasons.

We're far from the only fan base looking at our head coach with a critical eye.

Yeah, that's the part that I find disappointing.

I saw the question mark. I also saw the Mike Hamilton comment. I said you "seemed" to think that's what he meant. I'm not going to argue what everyone meant and thinks what others think. If I was wrong I apologize. Done.

I have no idea what a new AD will do. No, I don't actually think he's safe for the next 16 years if he doesn't win at least the East, but I don't know. You don't either. You keep bringing up the conference record. The new AD, which I don't even have a good feeling on who it will be, may not be as concerned about conference wins as you or me are, as long as we're winning 8-9 regular season and a bowl.

I hope that's not the case, but who knows?

Do any of us really think ANY coach is "safe" for the next 16 years? That's a long time for a person in charge of personnel that changes every 2-4 years let alone 18-
24 years olds in schools where that school (or governing body - conference or NCAA) can change academic standards at any time. Or in the case of the NCAA "come down" on a school or coach for almost any reason.

ESPN hates us! Jones is not on the hot seat! How can you be on the hot seat when you are getting ready to win the East this season? :dance2:
Butch is a VFL and will be in Knoxville for a very long time! :good!:

That is what I find amazing. It wasn't a great year for any team in the SEC not named Alabama.

And it seems that at least in Tennessee - 9 is not enough for some.

I believe he keeps his job with 9 wins.

Like everyone else I did not like losing to SC, but it was obviously the team was off that night. What we know after the fact is that a key player had several late nights due to classroom commitments and we know another player was on his way to quitting the team. Should we have won - absolutely - but it is time to move on. Other teams that lost to someone they shouldn't have moved on - not sure why some Tennessee fans can't do the same.

And I was mad after Vandy - but guess what - the sun came up the next day and life goes on. Just like it did when Peyton and company lost at Memphis when losing to Memphis was worse than losing to Vandy or SC.

Some of you need to invoke a 24 or 48 rule. You have over milked the two losses.

It is time to either get behind the 2017 edition of this football team or take your marbles and go root for someone else.

Can you name one P5 football fan base that is happy about going 4-4 in conference play, and who champions wins over Sunbelt and MAC teams during the season?

That was more of a dig at Hamilton's decisions as AD.

Well, Butch has stated that the goal is to "play for and win championships." If by his own words, he's not even coming close to meeting that goal, then I don't know how any AD whomever it is, can retain him, if his record continues the same or downward moving forward, unless the AD is content to be a middling SEC team.

Nor do I see how any AD can excuse consistent 4-4 or 5-3 conference records with no SECCG appearances, just because we are winning games against OOC opponents like App State, Ohio, and Tn Tech. If you aren't winning your conference, those games are little more than practice in the grand scheme of college football IMHO.

This started out me questioning Wise and 102455, as it turns out, you were too. Forget that.

I don't see how any UT AD hires Derek Dooley, but they did. I don't see how any new AD will retain Butch if he continues in the same direction without getting to Atlanta, but again, who knows?

I have to think that it's not just wins and losses, but who those wins and losses are.

You know, I've edited this post several times. Lol. I just can't do this. No hard feelings towards you, seriously. I just don't feel comfortable giving my opinion on possible decisions being made by someone I don't have a clue who will be making those decisions on things that haven't even happened yet and no clue as to what will happen.

I hope Butch succeeds. I have doubts that he can win in a way that I want him to, but really hope he can. I think because of the AD situation, if he wins 9 games this year he will be safe to coach 2018. After that, again, I have no clue but, If he wins 9 this year but doesn't get us to Atlanta, I will be in favor of replacing him.
