WR coach replacement

I read that some people wouldn't mind kevin beard he played on the great hurricanes teams..that would be the worst mistake in life..he didnt coach the the wr at the U good at all..we had good potential at wr but nobody ever maximized there potential..he is horrible im a big cane fan and you don't want beard..don't want him coaching my nephew Brandon Johnson..

FWIW, if Brandon shares your opinion and has a problem with Beard, sound like he needs to have a talk with Coach Scott or Jones.

This will be the sixth coaching change this off season and I think it is a great opportunity to continue upgrading the staff. The defensive additions were excellent, Rock is already playing dividends in the program, and while the offensive hires were not as newsworthy, they have the potential to be a big success. We will have to wait and see. However, it definitely reassures me that Butch will be here past 2017.

I'd like to get a guy who can develop our young WRs, we are going to need a few young guys to step up next year to help out our new QB. Go Vols!

Totally agree. Butch is making adjustments in the areas where adjustments needed to be made.

I don't care who we hire.

I just want a coach that can really teach the kids how to play great.

I also want that coach to be a top ace recruiter because until we can recruit with the best it'll be harder to WIN against the best.

This is a great opportunity to upgrade as a coach and a recruiter.

We all know it's very late to be trying to make a great hire but AD Hart and the Admins need to get up off the $$$ so buTch can go get the best coach/top recruiter and get him on the job NOW!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

I think that any coach at UT especially now has to be a great recruiter. This program is at a crossroads and other teams are negatively recruiting that our HC isn't going to be around as the program is starting to head downward. That said, has Beard recruited outside of South Florida? I ask because I just don't know how many HS kids would leave that area to go 900 miles north. To me, the border states like Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia are really key. With the talent instate ramping up, we need guys who can hit the ground running to impact the whole Volunteer state positively for UT.

CFA and Byrd says hello. Also, Scott pulled a number of recruits from Florida that signed with us this month. So Beard will be a great help knowing the area.

Since Scott gets us into Florida, would Beard benefit us that much more?

Is there an area of the country that we need help in that the New guy could help with?

If not I'm sticking with VFL Terry Fair.

What's the story on the 10th coach? When is the vote? I forget.

Will you please stop with Terry Fair, a defensive backs coach, becoming our new wide receivers coach. For crying out loud, who's next....Peyton coaching linebackers if Thig decides to move on?

SIAP. Sources indicate Thig is out and Peyton Manning is the favorite to take over as LB coach.

Question is: Would Weist leave a co-coordinator position to be wr coach only?

He might, if he thought Scott would get a HC position in a couple of years. Weist would be solid hire. Plus for Beard is familiarity with Scott.

Weist was not retained by Strong at USF so he is currently unemployed.

Has Price coached anywhere? I can't find a resume on him. Peerless was a great receiver, but you don't just wake up one morning, proclaim today I will be a coach, and get the job at a power 5 school that happens to be your alma mater on the merits of a championship ring.

That is about as silly as Fulmer harping on it to become an AD. If Peerless can coach, I hope they give him the opportunity to prove it as a GA. Without a resume, I don't see him getting the job.

I never thought Tee would be a great coach. He has risen through the ranks quickly.

Don't blame me for your crazy thoughts.

What would a world class VFL DB know about being a WR?

Peyton is over qualified to coach LBs any ways.

What do you think about their recruiting ability and coaching skills?
I took a look at wiki bios for Weist and Beard, but I don't really know enough about either to judge. Scott and Butch should know their coaching and recruiting skills, etc. pretty well.

Weist clearly has more experience, but may be harder to get. May have to give him CoOC or PGC job. UT > USF, but does he prefer CBJ vs CCS? He may have concerns about CBJ's seat being warm and no AD in place.

My guess: If Scott and CBJ feel good about Beard's skills and expect good staff chemistry with him, I think he may be their guy.

Quickly, yes. Instantly, no. Time spent as a GA let's you digest and learn how to adhere to the lengthy list of NCAA guidelines, especially those connected to recruiting. I love the idea of Peerless being a coach. But giving him a spot on staff without a year or two of proper coaching orientation is a little like giving a kid who has never driven a car the keys to your Rolls Royce, and saying, "Have fun!"

Try talking to some people who grew up down there. It will freak you out to hear them describe the schools. One of our new recruits got stabbed in line for lunch, damn near died. That is not an isolated incident. Yeah, there is violence everywhere, but it is much worse down there. They may have to get used to a colder winter up here, but there is a lot to be said for getting out of the line of fire. That is why they will make the 900 mile trip. They want to live.

"As for the vacant wide receiver coaching position, former Miami assistant Kevin Beard remains the front runner after interviewing at Tennessee over the weekend. He currently coaches receivers for Florida International and former Miami head coach Butch Davis." - VolQuest

Scott gets into the Tampa area. He has no real ties to South Florida.

Beard gets us into the tri-county hotbed of talent that is S Florida.

Larry was interim HC at the U so I would think his knowledge and name recognition in Miami area is impressive. Vols have been signing some terrific athletes - Byrd, etc. from Florida so this is a pipeline that can pay big dividends. Brandon Johnson - others look far better in SEC action than their rankings. I would rather hit Florida hard than worry about Memphis. Virginia also loaded with talent in Tidewater area. Saw where Gerald Brown will take QC position with Vols - that is adding some serious experience to offense.
