Walt Wells Charged with DUI in 2016 (merged)

New Tennessee OL coach Walt Wells was charged with DUI in 2016

LOL...So much for extreme vetting. Is anybody driving this thing?

Based on the comments here I guess no one would want Jon Gruden to be named as UT's coach anymore as well. So now who can the Butch haters/Gruden lovers latch onto?

PS - If I have misunderstood the purpose or meaning of this thread, well I have had a few beers after a very long day, so disregard where needed. Cheers to all.

CBJ supporters internet reaction to Wells: why are we doing this, why is everyone outraged, leave the guy alone, everyone drinks and drinks who cares, just something else for the Butch haters

CBJ skeptics internet reaction to well: hiw can this happy, who vetted this guy, what are we teaching the kids

CBJ supporters reality reaction to Wells: Ok

Not really what the thread is about. The difference has to do with why someone would report this a year after it happened other than to stir up ****.

Most likely no one really cared about Wells until he was promoted. Once they started looking at his "credentials", this was found and reported.

I didn't report it, I just was one of the people who opened a discussion about it on the board.

It should have been reported a year ago...That's the point.

As noted multiple times, arrests are a matter of public record.

If it wasn't reported, why aren't you criticizing the media for not writing about it? "Not reported" means... not reported. By a reporter.

If this occurred in some map-dot town, I'm sure the weekly paper would have noted it in their "police blotter" section, where everything gets reported, including complaints of loud music at 2 a.m.

Maybe the News Sentinel didn't think it worth any space. Maybe this ire should be directed at them.

Exactly right! Blame the media if you feel the news is late; however, it fits agendas to blame UT instead.

So much for actually reading...
"We were aware of the incident immediately," UT spokesman Ryan Robinson said in a statement emailed to the News Sentinel on Friday. "He was suspended for two weeks without pay and ordered to attend alcohol counseling. He fulfilled all the obligations set forth. We monitored his behavior throughout the past year and considered all that information before hiring him as offensive line coach."
^^Bumping from the first page (50 per page) for those who have lost track.

I agree that getting behind the wheel after drinking is more than a "mistake"; it's a crime. But you might want to think about the humiliation you would go through if this happened to you, and it was made known to your employer, and you had to sit at home for two weeks without pay, go to counseling, and have people checking on you for the next year.

I don't see any indication that this was swept under the rug. And who knows, as someone posted above, maybe he learned something from it and cleaned up his act.

It does happen, you know.

I doubt anyone associated with athletics of any kind puts any stock in your 'tips' Barney.

So you are telling me a one year old dui arrest of a ga turned oline coach has more impact on recruiting than losses to sec bottomfeeders? Lol, yeah right.

Jimmy Hyman is out to destroy the football program and the idiots in charge give him a statement.
