Walt Wells Charged with DUI in 2016 (merged)

In this world, where it took a year and a leak two days after his promotion was announced for anyone to know. In the world where we didn't hear about Kiffin wrecking a University Lexus full of co-eds until much, much later.

See the pattern?

No, more like the world where Sandusky and Paterno were scolded for their actions, or where Briles is now (or was) the center of attention in the Title IX lawsuit. Even though the players were accused, it's Briles who still faces all the scrutiny.

I know message boards are for debate, but I honestly just don't see the reason to continue this one.
You're either outraged over a reckless driving conviction or you're not. I'm not. And it's not because of UT or Jones.

Maybe South Carolina has someone on their staff with a reckless driving conviction, I'm not going to check because I don't care.
If it costs any of you sleep tonight, I'm sorry and recommend Tylenol PM. But I don't think you're going to get the public outrage you are looking for. If the best response you can get out of fade on the subject is "yawn", your chances of getting the posse together for a good witch burning, are highly unlikely.

Back to more important things like poster star rating. :)

This news certainly crushes the remarkable emotional highs of bringing in The Directional Triumvirate (North Texas, Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Florida) of elite offensive coaching into the Vol Nation and nailing down a scintillating 17th ranked recruiting class.

I think I need a drink.

Briles is facing scrutiny from how he handled it. And from what i understand, he deserves every bit of it.

Coaches are, you just dont hear about Quality coaches. He's the OL coach now, and look what happened, his record got leaked.

In what world are coaches not held to the same standard?

His record didn't get "leaked" from the standpoint that it was sealed from public awareness as much as it put UT in a position that it had to acknowledge they knew about it.

If Jones could just land the special teams coach from West Mississippi Junior College he would have a veritable Justice League of directional coaching all stars.

Thats the funniest part to me.

Its not really that big a deal (the arrest). Until someone writes an article about it and here cometh the pitchforks.

You are being reevaluated after the Mahoney bomb. Expect a bump in the next ratings.

I hope that the charges were pleaded down due to factual issues pertaining to his incident rather than his role with the UT Football Program. There's been way too many lives lost due to drunk driving, especially by people who got off light in prior incidents. There are certain crimes that should be pleaded down, drunk driving isn't one of them.

So you believe every arrest for every member on the staff should be released or that Butch Jones shouls interrupt the middle of his press conference to inform everyone that the new hire was arrested for a DUI a year previously?

Guess my question is, what is your protocol? How do you conduct this, since you seem to be so in tune with how it should play out.

Given he is on the public payroll and has a role in developing students and setting an example, my question is why wasn't this brought up a year ago when it happened?

A high profile athletic department job is a little different than a mail room clerk in the Department of Safety to be sure. But I do believe there is a responsibility to let us know is who is representing the school, yes.

I don't think a student should have these incidents splashed all over the media...Depending on the serious nature of the incident. It happens, without exception. Why should a coach not be held to the same level of scrutiny?

Did you marry Bruin's sister by any chance?

I'm certain that this is over the top hilarious, but I have no idea what you're talking about.

I gave you a like anyway. Wasn't that the point?

Would it have been reported at the time if it was a starting linebacker? Why should a staff member be any different?

Report it a year ago when it happened. Hyams, and many already knew about this a year ago. Seems the only reason for this riveting reporting is to cast shade on the program and have people actually pay some attention to your ****.

I didn't report it, I just was one of the people who opened a discussion about it on the board.

It should have been reported a year ago...That's the point.

You obviously slipped Wells a roofie with your blind hatred of the program based on this thread. I'd suggest seeking out Jones and the team chaplain for penance.

Actually this is about the correct timeline for that assclown Hyams, he is always predictably late in reporting anything then tries to make it sound like breaking news. What amazes me is that so many people on here (Almost 1/3) voted him the best at coving the Vols. hell you might as well pick John Douche Adams...

Most likely the dimwit Hyams saw the Oregon OCs DUI firing and resignation was getting air time on ESPN so he had to play goody goody and try and get his 5 minutes of fame with an old story --- probably trying to ruffle some feathers and get media clowns asking stuff like 'why does Oregon and USC fire drinkers but not UT" blah blah blah
