I heard Hubbs say that the Mitchell kid's high school coach was coached by Wells before. The Wells hire can't hurt anything in Mitchell's recruitment.

I think we land both him and Gavin and I am very excited. '18 should absolutely be a better recruiting year.... many of our staff recruiting wise were wearing out their welcome... with wells and hoke and Warren we will have a reinvigorated recruiting front. Coach Scott cleaning up Florida also. Exciting

Agree. I think we have to wait until the season starts before we will have any idea about the effect Canales will have on recruiting QB's. Right now, the fact that we actually have a QB coach should still be a plus over not having one. Time will tell the long term effect.

I want to believe!!!!!!!

Any thoughts on if Thigpen might leave before spring?

Forgot about Canales. Yes the fact we have a QB coach is already beginning to show itself in recruiting. We'll get a solid '18 QB

I have a feeling there will be a shake up there but then again it's just a feeling. No info

It will happen before spring though. Highly doubt butch makes any changes once spring ball starts

I know it's overly simplistic, but I've never understood why, with 22 positions between offense and defense, you couldn't employ the model of taking one person to fill every spot slot each cycle (5 OL, 4 DL, etc..). You'd still have 3 spots open to fill positions that open up or to give to that rare specialist that warrants a scholarship (sorry, Volatil!).

Then, theoretically, barring horrifically bad luck (like we had last year) you'd always be between 2-4 deep at every position (2-3 deep at positions where you've had season-ending injuries or defections). It's always confused me how we get into a position where we need, for instance, 3 running backs in one class...seems that sort of scenario is going to strain other position groups at some point.

Attrition. You can sign 25 people per class, but you aren't expected to keep all of them because you are only allowed 85. You can't control when and where that attrition happens. We needed 3 RB's because we had a lot of attrition from that position. I think last year before the season ended we were down to 76 scholarship players.

I have a feeling that we will shortly hear that Thig is moving on, and will ultimately end up as the LB coach at UNC, when the 10th assistant coach position is added.

Doubt it. They ain't paying that salary for a 10th coach and he isn't leaving without a similar pay or a bump or title increase.

Which '18 QB do you want to see in orange the most?

I think Fields is going to have a dominant senior year and look for him to keep rising. Really hope that Canales gets his foot in the door and then Butch and Co. come crashing through to steal him from PSU and Franklin.

What if he does not have a choice as to whether he leaves or not? If he is forced out, he may have to take a pay cut somewhere like UNC.

Probably impossible to lookup, but how many coaches found by a search firm have turned out to be good hires? Seems like every one I've heard of has turned out to be a bust.

Justin Fuente and Mike Norvell. Memphis used Eastman and Beaudine out of Texas.

I like Heather. She's not the expert on all things but she's come a long ways since she first started. I can't stand Vince. I thought I read where he is a gator but I might be wrong.

He's a gator. Heather has improved some, but she is still not all that good and still won't change her mind with a preponderance of evidence in front of her.

Staff takes 2 TE's next cycle IMO

I also think we will see the TE as a more featured role in this offense with Scott at OC
At TE we will have: Pope/Eli Wolf/Bumphus/Brown after next season. Ethan graduates. Johnson graduates. 1 and 2 are both feasible I suppose. I would say get 2 if we aren't confident in Eli

Walt Wells was arrested for DUI in February last year. He was suspended 2 weeks without pay, and he underwent treatment after that. Jimmy Hyams is tweeting about it now.

What a douche move for bringing this up now a year later. I mean I'm sure no one cared about it last year when he was a QC coach, but now that he is promoted you bring it up?

Edit: meaning for Hyams bringing it up not you.
