Kamara to Packers 1st Round

RB position was never devalued. The talent coming out in 2013 and 2014 at that position was just weak. PERIOD.

Of the league's top 10 rushers there was only 1 1st rounder in the bunch.

1 1st
2 2nd
2 3rd
2 4th
2 5th
1 undrafted

The point is that unless one really, REALLY thinks you've got a genuinely elite talent there's usually plenty of value to be had at the position outside the 1st round. That's where the "devalue" observation comes from.

And the QB throwing to him was drafted in the 6th round.

Just because you can find good players in the later rounds doesn't mean the position is devalued. It just means the talent evaluators aren't going a good job.

actually, it means they did a GREAT job.

stay on point. remember, we're talking about how much value NFL franchises place on RB's.

Mel Kiper doesn't even have Sutton as a Top 10 CB in his position rankings, which is crazy

He has Barnett as the 5th best DE, a little low IMO.

He has Dobbs as the 10th best QB, probably about right on that one.

Mel Kiper is absolutely awful when it comes to evaluating prospects. Just look at his track record. I would not pay any attention to his rankings.

Guys like Kiper and McShay only have value in the week before the draft when they put out their final mock draft and we can see what intel they were able to get from teams about who they will be picking in the 1st round. Other than that, these guys have zero value.

:eek:lol: as opposed to, say, you?

i don't think they're all that either, as most NFL teams use them to put noise out there, but they do make a living doing this...

Actually, Lacy lost a bunch weight and played well until he was injured. He should be back at full strength next season.

We'll see if he keeps the weight off. I saw him a couple years ago and he was no less than 270 lbs. this was during the offseason and he was healthy

I want you to think VERY carefully about how many times you may have cited these guys when what they say just "happened" to match your POV. Care to take a stab at who started this thread?

Mel Kiper: Jalen Hurd rated the 3rd best RB prospect in the 2017 Draft

Why because the media told you?

Do you believe everything the media tells you?

If the RB position has been devauled, explain a guy coming off an ACL going in the top 10 in 2015? Explain another going in the top 5 to a team that could make any RB a 1000 used rusher because of their elite o-line? Or how about this year where there are some mock drafts that have 4 RBs going in the first round?

The devaluation of the RB position is a media myth. If you have the talent you will be taken in the first round. PERIOD.

Buffalo: LeSean McCoy
Miami: Jay Ajayi
New England: LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis
New York Jets: Matt Forte

Houston: Lamar Miller
Indianapolis: Frank Gore
Jacksonville: TJ Yeldon, Chris Ivory
Tennessee: DeMarco Murray, Derrick Henry

Baltimore: Kenneth Dixon, Terrance West
Cincinnati: Jeremy Hill, Gio Bernard
Cleveland: Isaiah Crowell, Duke Johnson
Pittsburgh: Le'Veon Bell

Denver: CJ Anderson, Devontae Booker
Kansas City: Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware
LA Chargers: Melvin Gordon
Oakland: Latavius Murray

Dallas: Ezekial Elliott
New York Giants: Rashad Jennings, Paul Perkins
Philadelphia: Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles
Washington: Rob Kelley

Atlanta: Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman
Carolina: Jonathan Stewart
New Orleans: Mark Ingram
Tampa Bay: Doug Martin

Chicago: Jordan Howard
Detroit: Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick
Green Bay: Eddie Lacy, Ty Montgomery
Minnesota: Adrian Peterson, Jerick McKinnon

Arizona: David Johnson
LA Rams: Todd Gurley
San Francisco: Carlos Hyde
Seattle: Thomas Rawls, CJ Prosise

47 starting/co-starting RBs and I count 8 1st rounders in the entire NFL. By contrast, I count 5 UDFA starting RBs. Of those 8 1st rounders, it can be argued that Ryan Mathews, Jonathan Stewart, and Doug Martin haven't really lived up to expectations of 1st rounders, especially when it's been proven you can find guys late in the draft and even as UDFAs like Thomas Rawls, CJ Anderson, Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount, and Rob Kelley.

Look at your top RBs...
David Johnson (3rd rd)
LeVeon Bell (2nd rd)
Ezekial Elliott (1st rd)
LeSean McCoy (2nd)
DeMarco Murray (3rd rd)
Devonta Freeman (4th rd)
Todd Gurley (1st rd)
Jordan Howard (6th rd)
Jay Ajayi (5th rd)
Melvin Gordon (1st rd)

That's a wide assortment of draft positions. You don't want to believe it's been devalued and certainly won't admit it no matter how much evidence anyone can present, but you're dead wrong. The NFL is a passing league, and RBs are a dime a dozen for the most part, especially if they can't play all 3 downs. The 2018 class is special and will buck the trend, but it doesn't rewrite the NFL landscape. The special RBs will be drafted higher than normal, but the average ones will still be middle round picks.

Well I'm sure that teams would be salivating over your expert knowledge of talent if they only knew. My suggestion is to log off volnation and go work on your resume. Feel free to take a long, long time getting it prepared.

Per Todd McShay ESPN. As a life long packers fan and share holder I'd be ecstatic....

29. Green Bay Packers, 10-6

Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee

Kamara is an underrated talent who will continue to rise as we get closer to the draft. He has the vision and lateral quickness you look for in a runner and the power to break a lot of tackles. Kamara averaged 6.2 yards per carry, showing the ability to create plays on his own, which is among the most important things a back can do.

Will replace Cobb.

The GB Packers are the NFL's only public owned franchise, AK would be a great fit for their offense.

The problem wasn't playing over Hurd. It was playing over Josh Smith. Even if the staff preferred Hurd at RB, there was no excuse for Alvin to ever be on the bench. He was easily our best slot receiver. And whenever we needed big first downs or touchdowns we threw to Alvin. He was easily one of our 3 best offensive players. He should have NEVER left the field.

I would have played Hurd and Kamara together in the backfield on EVERY snap. Even if they didn't get the ball, just being out there would have caused to the defense to pay attention to them which would have given us an advantage.

There was no excuse for Alvin Kamara to be on the bench as much as he was at Tennessee.

Kamara proved to be injury prone once put into starting role

Wouldn't mind my giants snagging Alvin at 23. But we're projected to draft either McCaffrey or OJ Howard. I'll take OJ

AK isn't your normal RB.

He runs great between the Tackles.

He has the speed and runs great to the outside.

He's great at pass protection.

He's great as a slot WR.

He's good as a punt returner.

He's good as a kick returner.

He's quick, shifty and is a solid threat to take it to the house on any given play.

He has lots more to offer than most other RB's have.

The right OC can make a very serious threat and weapon out of AK.

I have no idea where he'll be drafted but I do know that the team that gets AK and uses him correctly will get 1 hell of a weapon.

VFL...GBO!!!

It doesn't matter. Kamara won't even be available for them to pick. He's going 16th overall to the Baltimore Ravens.

Here is my Vols Mock Draft:

Round 1, Pick 11: New Orleans Saints select DE Derek Barnett (Tennessee)
Round 1, Pick 15: Philadelphia Eagles select CB Cameron Sutton (Tennessee)
Round 1, Pick 16: Baltimore Ravens select RB Alvin Kamara (Tennessee)
Round 2, Pick 51: Cleveland Browns select QB Joshua Dobbs (Tennessee)

3 Vols will be picked in the 1st round. At least 4 Vols in the first two days. Possibly 5 if Malone runs as fast at the combine as I expect.

Wow. You guys are losing as much talent as the Gators.

Wrong: first three picks, with J Dobbs in mid-round one. Anything less is the absolute and concrete proof that Coach Butch Jones cannot develop players.
