This. Assistants move around all the time. If an assistant is in the same position for several years, something is usually wrong.
Gave in to constant clubbing over the head by Negas.
Last offseason solid coaching upgrades.
This offseason solid coaching upgrades.
Both offseasons solid coaching upgrades with knowledge and experience to coach the kids up and MOST importantly I believe we also upgraded with better recruiters too and that's a HUGE plus for the long term of our program.
It may take a couple of years or so to really see how well we'll reap the rewards of these solid coaching changes and better recruiters but there's reasons to feel better about where the program is now headed.
VFL...GBO!!!
All he can do is address the issues that exist.
He's not gonna fire himself.
So....he's addressed each position that most all of us overwhelmingly agree needed to be addressed.
So until we see the fruits of that labor, we just have to take it for what it is. Recognition of the issues, and steps taken to fix said issues.
Which, at the end of the day, is what I what I wanted him to do. So I will give credit here.
The bad news...I don't know that these changes will have such an impact on this season, to make it any more than the 7/8 wins I currently expect.
Lots of transition=lots of ifs.
Ok. But how much credit do we give a guy for fixing a crisis he created? Do we really pat him on the back for having to fire one of his own hires?
Honest question here. Do you think our players have the same concerns and expectations that you have? I know that's a speculative question but I really think they see the changes as having an immediate impact and expect nothing less than winning SEC east. Why shouldn't we share that mindset?
People wondered if his loyalty to his staff would keep him from doing what he needs to do. However only Azzanni and Thig remain from the initial staff in 2013. He not only has made changes, but upgraded. I realize this doesn't change everything, and wins are necessary, but definitely does answer a question a lot of us needed answered.

Walt Well may be an upgrade over Don Mahoney but he is no upgrade over Sam Pittman. Sam wanted to stay at UT. The O-line wanted him to stay and most of us on here wanted him to stay, but Jones stubborn loyalty let one of the best O-line coaches in college football walk out the door. Promoting the smartest kid on the short bus isn't going to get it done in the SEC.
Do you cuss yourself every morning when you get up, just so you can start the day right?

Only if I get up early enough before going to work to read latest iteration of sunshine pumping threads on volnation. And then I usually do cuss myself for being so naive to think/hope people may have gotten smarter overnight. :banghead2:
I have tried to be objective with posts, but when I read the trash a few of you guys post bashing Tennessee athletics, my devotion to my University forces me to try to counter act the negative atmosphere you have created. Call it sunshine pumping all you want, but I have a very civil and pleasant life. During my working days, I have seen employees with the attitude you and others like you fall to the wayside while others with positive attitudes rise to the top. Why no try being positive sometime, you may actually benefit from it and occasionally enjoy some sunshine.
well, you're in luck. we don't have to wait a couple years to start over.I love Tennessee athletics and am forever in debt to the university since I played varsity sports on full scholarship. That is also why I'm very passionate and bothers me when the standards are dropping and people are willing to accept that. I was very suspicious of Butch when he was hired, but also became very enthusiastic supporter for a while after he proved me wrong and had huge success in recruiting early on (I did not see that coming at all). I was hoping that recruiting success would extend to Butch also surprising me as far as on field coaching and ultimately W-L's, but unfortunately that most important aspect did not materialize. At this point I don't see any reason why Butch should become more successful in the future (with weaker talent level than he had last year) - that is why I'm pessimistic and feel like he should be replaced asap instead of wasting another couple of years and then starting over.
