Repetitive, obsessive complaining about a perceived violation being made public, while repetitively and obsessively making said perceived violation public on a free, public fan forum.

THAT, my friends, is the new definition of insanity. :loco:
One of the key words here is "perceived". That's his M.O. He takes his perception of things and runs with that as fact, then repeats it over and over.

I WISH everyone would just ignore him because nothing good ever comes from engaging him in "conversation".

So.....there is another Swain said thread over in the FF. Swain apparently is not impressed with the Wells hire. Who gives a sh** what Swain thinks, but of course it brought all the haters out.

Here was my post in that thread, which of course up to this point has not had a response.

"(name withheld) served as linebacker coach and defensive coordinator for the Vols freshman team in 1973 before moving to Wichita State University the following season. He spent five years at Wichita State, where he coached the offensive line in 1974 and 1977–1978 and served as linebacker coach in 1975–1976. He followed those years with a one-season stint at Vanderbilt, serving as an aide to Commodores head coach George MacIntyre.

Beginning in 1980, (name withheld) served 13 years as a Vols assistant coach, initially as the offensive line coach, and then as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

If you weren't able to figure out who this is by name, what would you think of this resume prior to 1980? What would you think of the fact that this man had NO big time O-line coaching experience prior to 1980. No OC experience at all and no HC experience at all prior to when he actually did it at TN.

Prior to coming to UT, he was the aide to a Vandy HC.

Reserve judgement until you see for yourself what Wells can do with the opportunity that has been given to him."

What do you guys think? Would you have been impressed with this resume had he been a choice for our next O-line coach instead of Wells, or anyone else for that matter?

We all know how it turned out, but looking at his qualifications prior to returning in 1980....this would have to look like an absolutely horrible hire to anyone...other than the fact that he was a former player here.

Just saw mcshay has Kamara going first round, no 29 to Green Bay! Amazes me he played second fiddle to Hurd!! Smh!

Playing behind Hurd wasn't the problem. Its the fact he was on the bench when he was clearly one of our 3 best offensive players. The staff should have found a way to have both players on the field nearly every snap. If he wasn't running the ball, Kamara should have lined up in the slot. If Hurd wasn't running he should have lined up at tight end.

There was no excuse for either Hurd or Kamara to be standing on the sidelines.

I don't think any of us have any idea if Wells will be good or not. But we do know Butch is making changes to improve the performance of the team. He knows this is not Year 1 or 2 of his tenure. If he made a comfortable hire in Wells like Canales obviously was, he knows it all has to work out or he will not make it here. We just support the team and hope he is right. I know I love the Warren and Hoke hires and feel good about Scott going to OC. A strong rebound by the D and a consistent O that makes the best use of unit strengths and talent could produce a strong season.

I had no idea Coach Wells was so connected to the high school scene in Tennessee. This looks to be another great hire by Butch and another step to solidify middle TN for the Vols.

He has been around the Rutherford County schools for awhile. His brother coaches at Riverdale. I've seen him at several practices.

He's WELLs known around here.

I love how Bielema is going into a warm seat year changing to a 3-4. I thought after Dooley, no coach would ever dream of doing that again. Especially Arkansas who has nobody to fit that NT spot and had 1 good lb this year. At least we had McMullen and maggitt

If I recall the darkness that was that year, I think it was our secondary that was confused more than anything. How many wide open deep passes did we give up due to blown assignments?

I think it takes 1-3 years to fully make the transition so it doesn't appear to be a good idea for a coach on the hot seat to try it. I think the bigger problem for us when we tried it was Sal, even more so than the actual transition itself.

Maybe he thinks it will buy him more time because he can say "hey, there is a transition period, give me another year". Similar to starting a freshman QB.

The whole defense had no clue how to line up. Then we had AJ trying to cover slot receivers. Sal was a total disaster but he was a blessing in disguise because it got rid of stooley.

Almost worked for Dooley, until the Vandy game.

I would be careful to insinuate that we didn't try to keep him. I think he chose the employer that not only could and would pay him more, but also the currently more successful employer. The one that has a better chance, currently, to further his career.Plus, wasn't he at Alabama before UT?

Yes

Dooley was getting fired regardless of the outcome of that game.

Several people, including LWS I believe, said Hart was hellbent on keeping Dooley until the Vandy beat down, then got his hand forced.

No offense, but I trust that info more than your recollection.

Hart would have been overridden.

I don't doubt Hart was planning on keeping him. I just doubt it would have played out that way.

Mizzou fiasco sealed his fate, no? It was the last straw for me.

I think it was over before then because fans were completely sold that he was not the guy. But if there was any hope for him it ended that day against Missouri when he gave that game away.

He was 4-6 after that game heading into Vandy. I know the story about how Hart wanted to keep him but there is no way that Dooley would have been brought back. The whole city was in coach search mode in October of that year. There were Jon Gruden masks being worn on Halloween.

Colin Cowherd continues his apparent obsession with UT football as today during a segment on Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, as he called UT the "most underachieving program in college sports."

Go to about 3:35 if you want to hear the UT part.

Until God himself rewrites Georgia's SEC Championship record, I will never even come close to considering this.

That is absolutely the most insane amount of talent (outside some the crappy years in Texas) that I've ever seen wasted.
