No one wearing orange does I agree.
Which is exactly why it doesn't need to be said for rivals to hear that would perhaps submit inquires.
The help could have been outside of practice hours/ off the field? I'm pretty sure QC are only not allowed to help during practice. Players can seek outside help from whoever.
Who does Tennessee finish with on 2018?
Seriously, if NSD was tomorrow, what in-state guys would be Vols?
As mentioned in my previous answer, there are still way too many variables in that to say for sure. But I think they have a good shot at pretty much all of their top in-state targets, including Camron Johnson, Greg Emerson, Brant Lawless, D'Andre Litaker, Master Teague, Brendon Harris, Jacob Warren and Jarek Campbell. I think they'll have a very good shot at guys like Justin Oden and Gavin Schoenwald, too, if they decide to push for them.
Where does Brady Hoke help the most in recruiting?
Not sure there's any particular geographic area in which he will help significantly, if that's what you're wondering about. He obviously has ties in the Midwest from his time in Michigan, but I don't know that he's particularly well-connected anywhere in the Southeast. He's just considered a pretty dynamic recruiter in general, and I think he might give Tennessee a better chance at landing some elite defensive linemen. That's certainly UT's hope, anyway.
Can you compare the recruiting abilities of Butch's first staff at Tennessee to the current one?
In your professional opinion, have the new hires been upgrades in that regard?
I think Tennessee's current staff is definitely an improvement from four years ago in the Vols' overall recruiting ability. No doubt in my mind that they've upgraded with their recent changes. I think this will be Tennessee's best recruiting staff under Jones.
Outside of mays, who in your opinion is a can't miss, have to have guy in this class?
I'm not sure there's any single player other than Mays who is an absolute can't-miss guy for Tennessee. I think the closest thing to that would be a couple of the in-state defensive lineman the Vols are pursuing. It's not often that this state has produced a few four-star defensive tackles in the same class, and DTs are hard to find in general. I think Tennessee needs to count on getting at least two of Emerson, Lawless and Litaker, and I would try to sign all three.
Name the QB that UT signs in the 2018 class.
The safest bet right now might be someone like Colson Yankoff. But I think Tennessee still has a shot at Justin Fields despite his commitment to Penn State, and the Vols look like they will be legitimate contenders for Justin Rogers, Kentucky commitment Jarren Williams and a few others.
Do you think we will be slower to accept early commitments from recruits that aren't at the top of our board this year?
Great question. That's one thing I'm very interested in seeing over the next five or six months. I think Tennessee has to be a bit more willing to turn some guys down in the spring and summer. At the same time, though, some of those early takes end up being better than expected, and others end up being somewhat disappointing once their senior film has been evaluated. Jacquez Jones was one that I think Tennessee didn't see as a top target at the time he committed back in May, but by the time signing day rolled around, the Vols were pretty happy to have him.
It's not as cut-and-dry as a lot of people might think, and it's certainly not the type of thing that should cause fans to say, "Oh, here we go again," every time Tennessee gets a three-star commitment. What a lot of people don't take into account is that three-stars sometimes end up being four-stars for example, Matthew Butler and Jordan Murphy by the time NSD comes around. But I do think, if there's someone the Vols are on the fence about taking, they need to be more selective in those situations.
The early returns on Gullicksons impacts particularly are encouraging. And Gullicksons unique approach to his first meetings with players also turned heads.
No nonsense; this is how it is, Bob Welton told 247Sports of Gullicksons approach. The first time he met with the kids, he met by position; not as a group. Sat them in chairs and sat with them and just talked. I thought that was an interesting approach, kind of a more sophisticated approach, but that was his way of just getting to their level and talking to them like a man. And I think thats the other thing, he just treats them fair and with respect and I think kids appreciate that.
Obviously, hes got skins on the wall so theres credibility, too, instantly with Rock. There isnt a one of those kids who can complain about what hes asking them to do because a lot of (successful) people have done exactly what hes done. Just the NFL presence in recruiting has been great. We obviously want Sunday players, and heres your guy.
From everything Ive heard from the guys, they love it. The first couple of days they were all walking around with limps, and they were like, Rocks killing us. But theyre doing it with a smile on their face and theyre showing up every day. What Ive seen from the veteran guys is that theyre rejuvenated; theyre excited to go to the weight room again. I think they like how its set up, and for them, from top to bottom, its just more of an energy thing. Its almost like its brand-new deal for them. I dont know if you see results that quick; I dont know. But I know that mentally youre seeing results that quick and thats the first part of it. And then Im sure youre going to see results, because thats weight-lifting and Rocks always gotten results.
Only a troll, a true committed troll like Bruin could find a way to be negative about Wells helping coach OL. Smh.
The astoundingly, unfairly talented Jonathan King, formerly UT's director of creative graphics, just accepted a similar position at the University of Alabama. When Nick Saban personally recruits someone, Saban tends to get his man --- as he did concurrent with another top-ranked signing class while personally recruiting King and greenlighting King to form what is, without question, going to be a creative force with ability commensurate to the Tide's on-field dynamics. A Big Ten source told us, "Dude, that's just not fair" as it pertains to 'Bama graphics' new dream team.
Anyway, and as he would first point out, due to the help of others, King's work so transformed UT's imaging during his four-plus years on Rocky Top that King's iconic images multiple times garnered national acclaim --- particularly on ESPN. After all, it was the Worldwide Leader who put King's mock ESPN Magazine cover of Shy Tuttle and Beyonce' on its SportsCenter broadcast, and when Butch Jones went on SportsCenter live with Scott Van Pelt, it was King's logo of Jones in a headset that mirrored Van Pelt's logo that also got ESPN airtime. His work has been honored by industry peers as well, and he's the guy ultimately responsible for the designs on the Vols' buses, season tickets and more in recent years. He was the architect and brainchild of UT's crazy popular "1 of 119" and "1 of 120" programs; helped design the award-winning "Smokey Grey" uniforms and the similarly acclaimed Vols' 2015 season football tickets that resembled vintage concert posters or a certain Lynchburg, Tenn., logo.
Above all that, King is one of the finest human beings I've encountered in 15 years on the UT beat, alongside the likes of John Painter, Craig Pinkerton, Haywood Harris, Gus Manning, Brandon Parks, Tim Miller, Jason Yellin, Chris Low, Brent Hubbs, Rob Hardin, Jimmy Stanton, Dan Carlson, Aaron Hayden and frankly, too many more to list.
King will be missed at Tennessee, and he'll be missed in the community.
Glad your cry baby moment didn't last long with Freak and you are back. Even though your demand wasn't met I am Glad you are back. I respect a guy changing his mind about leaving VN forever.
Point is it isn't good to broadcast to the world when rules are being broken. If you guys can't see that you aren't being realistic.
Wow. That is a butt ton of praise for our new OL coach. Really interested to see what Coach Walt "Calvin" Wells brings to the table not only as a coach for our OL but as a recruiter. Looks like he is loved by a lot of HS coaches around the area.
