Jones: Tennessee IS Back-"on CBS 4 str weeks"

Well good for you. Its sad when you fail to recoginize that UT has 10-2, 11-1 talent but your okay with beatdowns from USC / Vandy with losing records. At least you are honest about where you stand.

What the heck? Who said I was ok with it? How about I was a die hard Vol fan who sufferened through (actual) beatdowns to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, etc etc etc and losing seasons? Dude that's all I've known. I'm sorry if I don't know what the "glory days" are all about. Im sick of losing, Ive bailed on Butch, but I would have given anything to be a DECENT program again 5 years ago.
I'm not an idiot, I know what kind of talent UT has and what their record should have been. Nice of you to look like a fool by acting like you care so much more about the program than the rest of us. :hi:

Didnt mean to offend you and ive never questioned anyones fanhood. Im pretty sure in your original post you said you were happy with 10 win seasons. The Dooley / Kiffen years were bad, but we have talent on this team, CBJ has done alot of good, he is simply not a good coach. Its teams lack sound fundamental play and they can never seem to put it together all together. Yes ge has improved it over the four years, but each team was capable of so much more, every year. Im not suggesting he had to achieve it all every year, but imagine what the view of him would be had he achived half or even a quarter of it each year?

For instance, we all knew the first year would be bad, imagine if he had beat Vandy and went to a bowl, if he had hit 8 wins the following year, beat Florida in 15, went 10-3 or even 9-3 and landed the Sugar bowl this year? In my opinion a good coach gets at least a quarter or half of that stuff done, CBJ has won one game he shouldnt, USC 14.

Yay I'm so glad we can "compete" for the East but not win it..

Better than the previous 10 years. If you are competing then you can win it. Don't act like we are bama. Under the greatest coach ever in modern day, Fulmer won two sec titles. And 3 east titles in 14 years. Please realize who we are. We compete and win it from time to time. That's our history.

fulmer made it to ATL 3 more times and lost. He did lose some he should have won.

Sounds like a simple misunderstanding. I didn't mean I'm "content" with 9 or 10 wins but that I'm thankful for not winning 5 games... as that has been much of my fandom. I can only remember as far back as 03, maybe a game or 2 from 02.Most of the games I remember are losses to big rivals/ranked teams. I've been starving for 9 wins lol I think Butch is done, but I'll still get excited for possible improvement whomever the coach is or the depth chart. We all want the same thing! Hope Dormady or JG is the real deal, hope Trey Smith is awesome

The interent has created a large gap in communicate in our society. Its far easier to believe the person we are talking to believes the extreme opposite of what we believe as it is easier to invalidate any reasonable point they have. Not saying thats what happened between you and I, just in general. For instance the stupid cry baby uga thread of this morning. Most national analysts are picking UGA to win the east, the same guys that have picked the Vols to win the last two years. But for the OP, its far easier to believe that vol fans with the same thought are cry baby closet UGA fans than to admit they have a valid argument.

I bring this up to say, those of us that expect more are not saying we are Alabama. It also has little to do with historical records. The team we fielded this year did not play fundamentally sound football. Yet they have the talented to be 11-1/9-3. To me, this is directly attributed to coaching. So i hate it for the fans and players that missed out on a truly special season. If you think 8-4 and a MCB are fun, just wait until we hit a big bowl like Orange or Sugar, man its awesome.

Tennessee isnt back until we are beating Alabama like a red-headed step child

I'm one of the biggest UT fans you will ever see, but that isn't happening until Saban retires/leaves! He's just too damn good!!! He's the best college coach I've ever seen and everyone knows it. We can get lucky and beat him once every 3 or 4 years but we will not beat bama like a redheaded stepchild, until he's gone.

Please someone explain to him that winning a bowl game is not a championship. He thinks he is making his case but he keeps digging the hole deeper instead.

I give CBJ a pass on this past year just due to injuries alone! Man, just go look at all the injuries we had!!! Even the commentators talked about it for two or three games in a row on CBS. We've made great offseason hires and I've seen Jones learning and growing as the years go by. Hopefully his learning curve is faster than most! This year should show us what he's made of. Go Vols!!!

Jones directly attributioned the injuries to lack of hitting in practice in an effort to avoid injuries. And just my opinion, we didnt lose to Vandy due to injuries. Thats just a cope to compensate for mediocre performance. CBJ knows it as well, as he says dumb stuff to overcompensate for lack of performance. I have zero faith that he will ever win at a high level and making excuses hurts his cause. Winners dont make excuses. I could be wrong and the put together a good year next year, we will see.

Yeah, not playing fundamentally sound confused me. The team took a step back, and I'm talking about starters, not just the 3rd stringers who had to fill in.

No doubt they blew a big opportunity last year. Next year will be tough to achieve the kind of success people want. What's unfortunate is another 9 win season won't shut anybody up and that in itself will be a tall task.

But all in all, he has done far more good for this program than anybody in the last decade. While the program isn't quite yet where we want it to be, he sure doesn't deserve the childish ridicule that comes with tough guy keystrokes in search of laughs and likes.

Show some respect for the mans exhausting effort. It's evident he has put his sweat and tears into reviving this program from the dead. Maybe people aren't satisfied with the end result and there's nothing wrong with having that opinion but to ridicule the man is nothing short of petty and ignorant.

Yeah there's a diff between criticism and hysteria.

I read a lot of posts here. My take - there is a lot of potential for team 121. I think it's too easy for many to pile on CBJ. Sure, I wasn't happy about USCe and Vandy.. I was at the Vandy game.. Cold and witnessed the pent up Vandy rage there in the 4th quarter. I'll never go back there.

However...I see plenty of positives for next season.
  • We have new assistant coaches. Are they going to be worse than the ones whose place they took? As much as y'all whined about Debord, his offense set records. Scott my throw in some wrinkles that Debord didn't do. Maybe not so predictable.
  • Finally a QB coach. New Strength coach, and the news today that Brady Hoke will be helping.
  • Love Dobbs but accuracy was an issue at times. Got a feeling next QB will be a better passer. Quarentano's highlight tapes are impressive.
  • 4 game stretch last season was impossible. UF, UGA, Bama and T&M in a row. Nobody had a schedule like that last year. Next year, the pain is spread out. We got beat up and it manifested itself as injuries.
  • We actually have depth. Young guys got playing time, and we'll see some guys that were redshirted last year, that I think you'll be glad to see.

Look me up in a year, I might be a negavol then, but for the time being - I'm optomistic.

I understand and agree with some of your post. The injuries began the downward spiral, along with other contributing factors. However, this fan base can only absorb so much more of CBJ's errors before the ship sinks on his coaching era.

For example:
“(We did it for) a number of reasons,” Jones said. “We were discussing that, prior to the drive, if we did score, whether we go for one or two. We have a chart that’s pretty standard in football that maps it out. We just felt, at that stage in the game, we have great confidence in our defense of getting off the football field, allowing them to push the ball down the field. We felt very comfortable with that decision.” UT v.s. Florida, 2015
.

I feel ya. I really like Butch. But it seems like he makes it harder on himself sometimes when he sounds like a machine recording saying the same ol catch phrases & slogans week in and week out! I think the media and fans, would ease way up on him if he just sounded a bit more sincere from time to time.

Hopefully this season will be the season for Butch to start fast again, and finally finish it strong! Go Vols!!

The coach speak needs to be fixed. CBJ workes to improve everything else. He needs to attend some sort of seminar to improve his public speaking.
