161 touches when factoring runs, receptions and punts. 1150 yards and 13 touchdowns.

I took out Bama and South Carolina games due to injury. I see your point but you really cut numbers down and included games he either didn't play or was injured.

Makes it sound a lot better. The problem is that I think that article describes the perception of the situation held by most, not just UT fans but nationally as well. And in recruiting, perception is reality.

Getting Kamara more touches was not hard. He goes in to play more often and they call plays for him to run or receive the ball more often. There is no figuring out how to use him more. Butch controls that and he chose not to.

Opposing coach: Alvin Kanara was a great back and he was totally underutilized at TN. Probably cost him millions. Would they do the same to you?

It's not nearly that bad. Alabama RB's will sit for a year or two and play one year and leave. To be fair, the less mileage on an NFL RB the better. Any talent at a high level colkege will be seen. Maybe he was underutilized for us winning games, but it's not like Hurd was terrible. Kamara was hurt against USC this year, too.

Edit: I see all the responses now.

Agreed. Just had to hand him the ball. Nothing fancy needed.

Our coach:

What did Marcus Lattimore do in the NFL? What? Nothing? I promise that won't happen to you.

Edit: I posted before I read to the end. Apologies.

Here is one big problem that you guys are missing. Dobbs needed to run 10+ times a game as well for us to be effective. All of you guys were screaming about letting Dobbs loose. That takes away from carries to a RB. There is one football. We had 3 dynamic rushers of the football. It is so very easy to have this argument now. Alabama didn't have a QB that could run like that until this year.

And that was my point. He compressed his thoughts into a quote he thought he would make a good soundbyte. Herman was speaking off the cuff and it didn't make a good headline quote or tweet.

The 247 guys said Butch said the same thing on signing day, but the didn't report on it. Then he said it 2-3 times at the signing day celebrations (ironically followed up by a video hyping the top 100 players they got), so they kind of had to report it.

For better or worse, it seems like Butch wanted that quote in headlines. Likely because he knows that recruits and their families don't see things quite the same as fans and pundits

And that was my point. They didn't even have the integrity to print his entire quote; not even his entire sentence. I mean not in the headlines, etc, which is what people focus on.

They compressed it even more than he did to make it sound like something different from what he actually said. His complete sentence isn't nearly as soundbite-worthy and not as enticing for them to gather attention.

Need a little help from the Vol faithful today with a tough pick. Im in my fantasy leagues sacko bowl, if you arent familiar with the term it means i finished in the bottom two and myself and the other guy are playing one last game today to decide who came in last. Yes im embarrassed. But the format is we drafted a team apiece from only todays rosters and i have a tough call. I have hogan and Julio as my two wr starters. I have to pick my flex though and im torn between Gabriel and Sanu. They each averaged 9.9 points per game season long in PPR format. With gabriel being a little stronger down the stretch with better peoduction the last 8 games. But with the Pats ability to usually take away a teams #1 wr (julio obviously) Im not sure who has the bigger game. Any suggestions? This is vs my boss so i HAVE to win...

I think the utilization of Kamara falls more on Debo and Coach G than on Jones. One thing that Debo was not good at was coaching to his players strengths; he would call his game regardless of which back was in at the time.

There's only one football.

Yup. Fanbase wanted more touches for the following....

Wolf, Dobbs, Jennings, Byrd, Kelly and Kamara.

We need to run about 50 more plays a game I guess.

Agree completely!!!! The coaches handed out every piece of pie they had available. Then VN says that the RBs needed more pie. Then VN says the WRs needed more pie. Then VN says the TEs needed more pie. Then VN says that Dobbs needed more pie. If you give one position group more pie you have to take some pie away from somebody else. Of course VN would scream about that group getting their pie taken away and that we need to give them back their pie and some more besides.

THE PIE IS FINITE.

Except Wolf could have been used more. His seam route was wide open many times and not thrown to. If he's hit, then first downs extend drives; and more pie is made. :)

Should've stopped throwing Josh Smith screens. He hasn't broke one for a TD yet. Byrd came close vs Kentucky.

After Byrd displayed toughness and was winning against the Florida DBs I expected him to fully supplant Smith. Guess the coaches had other plans.

If he goes in the first round that argument will fall apart. All the kid will hear is Tennessee had a RB get drafted in the first round after hearing RBs aren't worth picking in the first round for the last 5 years.

2017 draft will be good for Tennessee's recruiting going forward.
