"Talent sets the floor, but character sets the ceiling"

That's not even a lame or untrue statement. Butch says lame stuff to make up for disappointment. This quote is saying talent matters but it only does if you have a high character. This statement makes it clear both are important. Butchs statement makes it sound like having a good character is the only thing you need.

I refuse to believe Tennessee fans are dumb enough to believe that's what CBJ thinks.

I think it's the opposite. High-character squads like the ones at the military academies still have a consistently high floor despite having to play with 250-lb linemen, but a talented team with character problems can completely implode (e.g., look at us under Kiffin & Dooley, or Texas, Miami, Michigan over the past ten years, etc.). Talent is necessary to win championships (i.e., reach the ceiling), but it by no means guarantees a high floor.

Butch Jones?

Nah, Bill Belichek but thank goodness it wasn't CBJ

It's not enough to compare our awesome head coach to the greatest college coach of all time with a straight face, now we're comparing him to the greatest NFL head coach of all time...

Wow.

If anything this should go to show all you CBJ defenders that you can say anything when you win at a high level. This guy literally took up for Aaron Hernandez. When Butch wins a national championship, he can say whatever he wants too.

Wow.

It is sad, the length people will go to to prove a point, like they are throwing something in our face.

It really is.
Next thing you know they will be deconstructing press conferences, ranting over soundbites, accusing you of gut punching players and bad mouthing recruits!

Ok, that was hyperbole, no fan would actually go that far :)
