Jones: Tennessee IS Back-"on CBS 4 str weeks"

No doubt they blew a big opportunity last year. Next year will be tough to achieve the kind of success people want. What's unfortunate is another 9 win season won't shut anybody up and that in itself will be a tall task.

But all in all, he has done far more good for this program than anybody in the last decade. While the program isn't quite yet where we want it to be, he sure doesn't deserve the childish ridicule that comes with tough guy keystrokes in search of laughs and likes.

Show some respect for the mans exhausting effort. It's evident he has put his sweat and tears into reviving this program from the dead. Maybe people aren't satisfied with the end result and there's nothing wrong with having that opinion but to ridicule the man is nothing short of petty and ignorant.

Your man is getting PAID a lot of money. It isn't for effort. It's for results.

CBJ states positive "FACTS", and some automatically turn it into "SO WHATS'". Just because you're still unwilling to move past the losses to Vandy and SC. It was NSD. The class was a success according to Bob Welton also. We were on CBS 4 weeks in a row. Fact! There was a time that the UT/UF game didn't get aired because we performed so bad. We had 4-5 games on Pay Per View a year. Games on SEC network and not prime time. Getting drug my Bama, Arky like 45-3. Praying that we didn't lose 8 games so we could still say we are the only other team besides OSU that has never lost 8 in a season. CBJ has got us over the hump and he's trying to build some positive traction, but you guys burn him at the stake because you don't like what comes out of his mouth. He's been a HC for 9 years. He's still learning. Which of you nega's were experts and knew it all at 9 years into your careers?

When has the UF/UT game never been aired? And I don't mean in the 80s when maybe 5 games a week total in the country were televised.

And what does Butch have to do with the fact that college football has grown? We haven't had "4 or 5 PPV games a year" in 25 years.

Thay's my point Hillbilly. It's been years. It's no longer talk of not airing the UT/UF game on CBS. No more 5-7 seasons. But, hey continue your Fahr Butch agenda that you spew from back up in the "holler".

You're not making a point, because Butch has nothing to do with the fact we don't have "4 or 5 PPV games a year".

It's sad that you criticize other fans who are mature enough to recognize the reality that Team 120 had an unusually high number of injuries to key contributors. And that, without those injuries, we almost certainly would have won the 10 or 11 games most of us predicted.

Coaches and players never want to use injuries as an excuse and ours didn't. Even when the injuries were happening at an almost comical pace, they repeated the "next man up" mantra and kept fighting. That's what we expect from them.

But as fans, we are free to either stamp our feet and pout about it or accept reality. A lot of those who are complaining now are the same ones who couched their expectations prior to the season by saying, "Barring injuries..." or "If we can stay healthy..." Now they want to pretend the injuries never happened and cry because they're disappointed in the outcome. Well, guess what? We were all disappointed. But no amount of whining is going to change it. It's time for us to move on and support our team.

I console myself with the knowledge that not everyone here is necessarily an adult. I can only hope that explains most of it.

Well stated and true. But you can't reason with those that refuse to look at the facts you stated. The light may turn on for them some day. Just ignore them.

The worst thing that has happened to Tennessee is that they didn't have a few more difficult seasons. Because then all the negative people would abandon ship. Instead, they remain around *****ing about absolutely everything the team does and the coach says. Frankly, Tennessee needs to prune back about half its fan base and it would be much better off and much better successful. I swear the team could win the National Championship and half the people on the board would respond "we only won by 7, Saban would have won by 21." These should take the easy road and go to Alabama and leave everyone else in peace.

Not "fan base" , prune "on the board" THIS BOARD. "Fans" seem to still show up at games. Negative posts stand out on this board.

Nobody is spewing a "Fahr Butch" agenda here.

Just ridiculing and criticizing the man for once again stepping into a pile of PR BS of his own making.

If he would spend less time patting himself on the back for the Vols making CBS again and more time actually owning some of his shortcomings, fans would respect him more.

Who do you want as a coach? Name a realistic coaching option that you think could come in here and win the SEC.

First, I like Jones and hope that he crosses over to a great coach in 17 and wins championships here for decades. I know he puts his foot in his mouth, makes the odd mistake during games and had three really bad games this past year (i.e. Vandy, USC and Bama). However, I still see the program as being much better than 4 years ago, so my faith continues.

However, if he doesn't cross over and there is a change in the future, the three coaches I would have on the list are:

Scott Frost at UCF. Former Oregon OC, won a NC under Osborne at Nebraska and appears to be the next hot rocket.

Dino Babers at Syracuse. I'll be interested to see if he turns things around at Syracuse this year, but I like the guy and he has Orange shirts already so...

Pat Narduzzi at Pitt. They play tough, lunch pail football and he successfully rehabbed Peterman. I think he would be a great fit in Knoxville.

Sorry if I offended anyone. Injuries is not the reason we lost to Vandy. If you have convinced yourself that is the reason then ok. I would then ask you this. Does it not concern you that in 4 years our coach has not developed enough talent to beat a 5-6 Vandy team?
I would also had, we cant beat a 5-6 Vandy team but we can take the same players and beat a 9 win Nebraska team. interesting.
Its disheartening to me that we have fans that think 9 wins is okay after how the season played out. If that is your opinion then great.

Again, we had the players to win more than 9 games, but we didn't have the depth to absorb the number of injuries we had and still play at that high level.

I don't think we should have lost to Vandy. But we did because we couldn't keep their offense from scoring. We put up 34 points and that should have been more than enough to win the game.

Griffin, Gaulden, Kirkland, Jr. & TKJ all played hurt on defense. I don't recall how much TKJ played, but I don't think he was in there for very long.

DNPs on defense were Alexis Johnson, Reeves-Maybin, Kahlil, Austin Smith, Quart’e Sapp & Shy Tuttle. Don't forget we also lost Danny O'Brien.

So maybe that's how I somehow managed to convince myself that injuries were a factor.

Evan Berry would also have been available to play some snaps on defense, but was obviously more of a loss on special team.

And you do realize the Nebraska game was almost a month later, right? We had time to rest and get some of those guys back in playing shape. We had time to get the guys behind them up to speed. Nebraska's starting QB was out and that made it a less competitive game, IMO.

A LOT of the whiners are calling for Butch's head and speculating about how much longer the poor dears will have to suffer before it finally happens. They're all so anxious to get started second-guessing and criticizing the next head coach.

Right. Man it's like a funeral around here lately.

But Butch is ABSOLUTLEY right. WE BACK BABY!!!!

Losing to SCe and Vandy (2 of the last 4 yrs) and we're back??????????

Back to what, exactly???

Sorry boys, but two straight 9-4 seasons and losing 4 games we should've WON is NOT my definition of being back!!! (Fla, Ok, SCe, and Vandy)..

Not to mention beating UGA on a wing and a prayer...

With dum dums he is. With me he is stating the truth. He has brought us back to where we can expect to be ranked every year, compete for the east every year. Do you guys not remember the end of fulmer, the year with dimbass, and the Dooley train wreck. He has brought us back.

Yay I'm so glad we can "compete" for the East but not win it..

Butch: "we're a young team"
VN: "STOP MAKING EXCUSES!"

Butch: "we're back"
VN: "NO WE'RE NOT"

You all got pissed when he said the team was young. Now he's saying the team is ready to compete every season and you're pissed about that. I'm pretty sure some of you would only be happy if Butch comes out and says he sucks, the players suck, and he will never be as good as Saban.

Butch could have made valid excuses about the role injuries played in the 2nd half of the season but he didn't. He probably should have just pointed to putting an end to the Florida streak, the comeback win over Georgia and the overall solid performance vs Nebraska and left it at that... but let's face it. The whiners here are still going to whine. Nothing he could have said would have satisfied the legion of the miserable.

Yes. I am tired of all the critics. Butch is not going anywhere for at least three more years. Get on the train or STFU.

I'm on the train. I'm a UT fan. I just want a conductor for the train who doesn't underperform.

Nice strawman; people are criticizing him for the ways he's stretching to justify saying we're back. Saying being on CBS 4 straight weeks proves we're back is silly.

If you're going to piss and moan about people criticizing him, at least get right why they are doing so.

I have no issue with Butch saying Tennessee is back. He seems confident about the team he has. He also has to try to spin a positive light on the program.

Folks have been irate around here for years at Butch's excuses of youth, etc. However, based on the comments I've heard from him this week, Butch seems happy with where the roster is right now. Hopefully we're to the point where we will be able to redshirt many of these newcomers and not have to rely on them for depth like we have in years past.

Finally, someone with some credibility, football knowledge AND common sense speaks up!!! Thank You, Freak!

Because all the evidence suggests otherwise; it suggests that we are NOT ready to compete every season, or any season really..

18 wins over the past 2 years, 2 game winning streak over UGA, win over UF, 2nd in the East 2 years in a row.

In 2017 our starting offense will be all upper class men except for 1 WR and JG if he wins the QB job. Defense may all be upperclassmen too, just depends on if Warrior beats Abernathy for safety spot, Buchanan beats Berry for a corner spot, and if Phillips and Kongbo line up outside or stay inside.

CBJ has got us over the hump

No he hasn't. He has proven he is better than the Dooley that some swear is not the bar, even if they use him as such.

He has yet to hit the low bar of Fulmer's success at the easiest stage in its history. Which would be kind if it was considered "the Hump."

It depends on how you define "back." Tennessee was "back" in the national spotlight last season, hence the reason we were chosen by CBS four straight weeks. Folks had confidence in our staff and our roster to compete for a championship.

But 9-4 isn't back to the level of national prominence where we'd all like to be.
