Just saw an article where Butch declined to answer a reporter's question about staff changes now that Signing Day is over. What do you all think?

With a decline, I am leaning towards we see at least one more.

Mahoney out. Stripling retires or moves to an administrative position. Walt Wells gets promoted from GA to O-line coach. Brady Hoke hired as D-line/Associate Head Coach.

My guess, Butch goes all-in, and keeps the current staff as it is now. He's ride or die for Don Mahoney.

I remember the speculation about this when we were talking about Helfrich.

If Azzanni leaves Kevin Beard would make sense as a replacement to coach wide receivers. Currently at Florida International but was on staff with Larry Scott at Miami where he also played.

honestly if we were gonna bring in Brady, wouldn't we have done it before national signing day? I heard he's a good recruiter (key word is heard) and could've helped this class.

Mahoney is gone after his contract is up. The guy should have been canned a loooong time ago. I would like to see Butch add an ace recruiter (Tosh Lupoi like) to the staff.

Hoke seemed to be a popular rumor before NSD. I'm gonna say he brings in Hoke.

I definitely think we will see some changes. If not certain guys would have already gotten contract extensions.

However, I did find it interesting that Butch mentioned he interviewed 10 coaches for the QB position, 5 NFL and 5 NCAA. He stated he knew it was Canales from the beginning but wanted him to prove himself to everybody. It seems nobody else really got a fair shot if he already "knew" it was Canales.

Mahoney's contract will not be renewed. Wells will be promoted to OL coach. Strip is safe, but if he retires or moves over to the administrative side, Hoke is a possibility, but far from a sure thing. Unless someone hires him away, ZA stays put until next season. Next year, he probably looks around after being passed over for OC twice. His goal is to rise through the coaching system. He's gone as far as he's going to here.

No. Ir takes time to work through the process for each change, and the two changes that HAD to be done quickly between getting back from the MCB and signing day was the S&C job and OC. Butch also fit in making the change at secondary. Whenever you fire a guy who recruited your commits for his position group, you might have to put in face time to keep them in the fold, which happened in this case.

It can't be done instantly if you want to keep the commits you have, So there just wasn't ample time. If real life was a video game, Butch could have made all the changes in a day.

But then again, Butch may be done. All we know is Mahoney's contract is suppose to be up for renewal, and there is a rumor Stripling might retire. Just because someone predicts a change because he HOPES it gets made doesn't make it so.

Any chance Hoke comes on in an admin/consultant/support position if no coaching slots available? Of course Bama has done this and UT also had a former HC in a capacity like this a while back, as well as other programs. For a guy getting pain a lot from former jobs, could be a way to spend a year and come on full time in 18 or elsewhere.

I hope none of these mighty 3*s jump somewhere else, due to any Post National Signing Day Coaching changes...

Still shaking my head that Butch brought in Mahoney and cut Pittman loose when he got here.

I must be the only one that thinks Thigpen has done a poor job of developing players, and it seems like the more time he has to work with them the more they regress. They were exposed when we lost our best 3 DT by being out of position and unable to shed a block and just seemed to be on their heals waiting instead of attacking the LOS. Could this be a product of him not being able to grasp Shoop's Defensive or not being able to coach or a combination of both? Forget about any perceived greatness in recruiting ability. I believe we added some good players in this recruiting class at the position and would like to see them reach their potential.
