Ya see, this is the damn problem with this program and staff! Wow, 2 three star recruits....woopty doo! You call that a HR?? lol No, getting Cam Akers along with Chandler would have "hit it out of the park". Again, this program accepts mediocrity and actually tries hyping it up like we're clueless idiots.

true cause we know better than Coach G. why can't you guys be up beat about something?

It's amazing that some posters think they know more than a coach. Coach G is a good RB coach that knows talent, maybe our incoming RB's do fit our system. I will take his word over people behind a keyboard that haven't seen the players up close like he has. GO VOLS!!!!

And Tennessee has 9 4* based on Rivals.

If you take a look the 4 stars are really where the recruiting battles are won and lost IMO. Just take a look at how many 4 stars Saban gets every year. There's really not enough 5 stars around to make a big difference and they are widely distributed the few of them there are.

Big statements create big expectations. Hope he's right.

I remember this big statement clearly:

“Nobody will run the football on the ‘Orange Swarm.’ Nobody will run the football on Tennessee.”-Shoop.

And the bad thing is they will Never change. Makes you wonder how these guys handle other life situations. Gotta be sky falling, glass half empty attitudes.

Anyone bashing on Butch Jones right now is a fool. We've won 3 straight bowl games for the first time in over 20 years. Stop chasing Nick Saban. We have won 9 games 2 seasons in a row. I'm okay if we don't win the SEC every year. I for one am enjoying watching quality football again. I'd rather have him than take a gamble the next guy could knock off Saban consistently. I for one don't think that is realistic, and the chances are that we would be worse off, not better.
I'm more concerned that UT hires the right AD at this point. Hiring Fulmer as the AD would do more to help the football program than replacing Butch IMO.

More bowls than ever

5-7 teams make bowls

If it was like it was in the 80' and 90's when you had to have 8 wins to make a bowl, this might have more merit

John Kelly is good and all, but dude fumbles too much and wasn't even the main ball carrier.

Is he good? Yes. Can he be the lead back in this offense? Idk.

Its pretty clear right now

The hype train derailed this last season

Yessir! Well-said......with CDD--it took me until that Mizzou game in Knoxville....

With CBJ......it was the SCe game this year.......was completely still on board the CBJ train until another pathetic loss to the 'CHUMP when we had the better team without any reasonable doubt....

Don't confuse 'em with rational thinking there, Indy!

Kamara is truly good, but couldn't make it thru 2 full QTRs against Bama.....Kelly is truly good, but has NEVER had to run against the biggest and baddest SEC defenses as the beast of burden.....:hi:

We need you on that train Mike! If we are all true Vol fans then we have to support the total package, players, coaches, recruits, AD etc. The harm that constant negative posts does to the program far outweighs the positive posts. I was just as disappointed with shortcomings of 2016 as anyone but I just don't feel like it's time to throw the baby out with the bath water. Not yet. I think we are all going to be pleasantly surprised with the total package next year. Stay on board for it. GBO

I don't know if the staff "accepts mediocrity" but rather they are lacking in the ability to land the big fish. Maybe some members don't work at recruiting hard enough. Hopefully, the new coaching changes will provide an improvement in recruiting. After all is said and done, we need to win (more) to attract more elite talent, and that is squarely on Butch and the coaching staff.

I will too. The coaches know better what they need to fill gaps.

If it was up to folks on here they would rather sign 15 5* at one position just to be ranked at the top even if that meant they didn't have players to play at every position on the football field.

SaturdayDownSouth (SDS) says that this class is not about "numbers" (stars) but rather about "filling needs". Is it unreasonable to expect or hope that this staff fills the needs with the highest rated players around?

If it was like the 80's and 90's, we would have made the last two.

Im not satisfied with it, but it is what it is.

I've seen quite a few articles saying the class is a good one and fills the needs - and that is not the coaches speaking but sports analysts OUTSIDE of Knoxville.

I have come to realize that sports folks in Knoxville just like to complain about Tennessee.
