No Natty without Elite Recruiting
Bet there was a similar post on VN the year after PM graduated:
No Natty without Peyton and Elite Recruits
Maybe this year's team will perform better than last couple of classes since they do not have all that hype and high expectations on them. Just saying...
The fight is over.
There is no debate, and never should have been.
Carry on, gents.
History shows national titles without elite recruiting over 4 years is rare
So unless we recruit well, we won't be getting any cheap beer?
Am I reading the title to this thread correctly?
Nah, it's all on the negavols that recruiting is down. Just ask Mike Farrell.
Farrell believes Jones will need to alter his recruiting pitch and results on the field to entice more high-level recruits to Tennessee in the future.
Its easier to sell a vision than it is to sell results. When you are taking a job and replacing Derek Dooley, you have a vision that we are not going to be that Tennessee anymore. We are not going to be horrible. You get kids to buy in because Tennessee has so much to offer. It has great fans, facilities and tradition and plays in the SEC. There are so many things to sell, so when your first three classes are home runs its not a surprise, Farrell said.
But after being predicted to win the SEC East this year and being a dark horse to win it the year before and falling short each time, now kids are like OK. Im not buying into your vision as much. You have to prove it to me. Until they break through and win the SEC East, its going to be a struggle in recruiting a little bit more than it was the first couple of years.

Would love to see the stats on that one. Just seemed like after PM left that expectations were much lower for the Tee Martin led team - which took the pressure off them, IMO>
#11 class for 2017. we are stuck with 9-10 win seasons i think. which is better than we were. but not where we want to be forever. need titles.
While #14 is fair for 2017, because it's just not an exciting class with several projects and under the radar/underrated recruits. But 2016 is a top 10 class to me. Lots of talent in the 2016 class.247 Composite Rankings
2017 (Current Class) - 14th
2016 - 14th
2015 - 4th
2014 - 7th
Average 9.75
Recruiting has been where it needs to be under Butch. In line with many of those programs.

Auburn averaged 16th, Clemson 13th in their NC wins. LSU 12th. Although not a NC win but Washington probably averaged in the 40s for their recruiting, they made playoffs. Oregon could not be in Top 15 for their NC title game (4 years average).
Even for NCs, 21% of the teams were recruiting below top 10. That is a big % to overlook.
So yes, you can win NC or be elite without Top 10 recruiting if you know how to develop players and coach good games.
Botch is a total pathetic freakin' loser. That's what he is. If we don't run him out of town soon, we'll be back to Dooleyland 1-7 SEC records. One highly rated player and a bunch of 3-star projects ain't gonna cut it !!! But we are UT, and we won't do squat until things get really really bad and there's only 65-70K in the stands. Then the idiot sunshine pumpers in our fan base will be screamin' to make that pompous lazy politician Phil our coach again. UGGGGGGGGHHHHHH !!!!!

Think he hit the nail on the head. One thing is for sure...we won't have to worry about the team being overhyped coming into this season.
