I still don't unferstand why ot is our responsibility to take in Syrian refugees when Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. have collectively taken in zero.

Yes. His back and forth exchange with Kristen Welker was bizarre. According to Spicer, the media is to blame now when Trump uses words he shouldn't in his own tweets.
Speaking of the media, Fox News, at the insistence of the Canadian Prime Minister, has had to retract their fake news tweets regarding the nationality of the killer. They had earlier admitted to the false report but evidently still left the original reports in circulation. That's standard Fox. Provide fake news, give it time to circulate, and then send out a small retraction at two in the morning.

I disagree. First generation assimilation is not an important component of immigration. Immigrants just need to learn the laws of their new country and abide by them. After that, whatever they choose to make of their new life is up to them. The United States has never been a melting pot. Immigrants change countries more than countries change immigrants. That's true everywhere and it's not exclusive to Muslims. There was mass immigration in the late 70's from Cuba into south Florida... For the most part, the first generation of those Cuban immigrants did not assimilate. They simply made Miami the new Havana. You do eventually see assimilation by the 3rd generation but most of them still abide by the customs of their parents/grandparents. It would be the same thing with Muslims. Assimilation does eventually happen but not in the first wave.
What if I believe neither of them matter? It's simple math. More people on the planet means less of them matter. Look at pennies, in the 1800's when there wasn't as much money, pennies mattered a lot. Now, people don't think twice about losing one.
