Hubbs with the buzzkill

New So let's set the table for tomorrow. The headliner will be LaBryan Ray and that won't happen till 12:40 eastern time. At this point, we know that Ray spoke with both Alabama and Tennessee multiple times today. Florida continues to swing there, but this is a two team race in our opinion. We just don't see Ray getting out of the state of Alabama even though Tennessee has continued to put the full court press on and at least four different Vol assistants spoke with Ray on Monday. It will clearly be a stunner if it's not the Crimson Tide.

Outside of that, we will be watching Jordan Murphy and Jacquez Jones early in the morning with both taking visits the last several weeks. Murphy took the secret trip to Oxford last weekend and while Tennessee has had steady dialogue with him, it's still worth watching and I wouldn't feel safe until that LOI comes across the fax or e-mail. Then there is Jones who has seen Central Florida and South Florida sandwiched around his official visit to Tennessee. If anything should go on with either of those two, then Tennessee would give Jordan Pouncey a call. Pouncey loved his visit to Knoxville and we believe wants to be a part of this class. It's going to boil down to the numbers and barring a change with Jones or Murphy, he will be on the outside looking in. The positive for Pouncey is his announcement isn't scheduled till the early afternoon hours which gives Tennessee some wiggle room.

Outside of that, expect most everything to happen by lunch and for it to be an anti-climatic day. The hay is in the barn and NSD won't feel like NSD to most of you that have followed the drama over the years. I know this isn't the type of post you want to see, but I wanted to give you guys a look at what tomorrow will look it.

I believe the class is solid.

Could have/should have been better though.

Kind of the way I look at it. Could have, should have been better. I think three things hurt us:

Law suit in the spring gave a lot of ammunition to recruit against.

Drama in the locker room with Hurd.

Disappointing season. Favored to win the east, lost chance at NY6, ended up in MCB.

Why would he do that?

If he wins big this year has set himself up to step back.

The late season collapse cost us some quality players IMO.

More that it was the 2-3 stretch in the first 5 SEC games to go with Vandy. When Bama blew them out and they lost to USCe - the die was cast.

The only way back to top 10 classes is to win big next season.

With our resources and the amount of money we invest in recruiting a top 10 class isn't asking too much.

He has done it multiple times. If you believe we should do it every year, then I don't know what to tell you. I have followed recruiting for 18 years. Just doesn't happen every year.

Psssshhh. Good thing it's only national signing day eve. We've got time. All those supposed bumps in rankings for 72% of our underrated recruits are coming. Just need to wait a bit longer. Always key to just wait. lol

Yes. "It's only July. Chill guys." Oh. Wait.

Just a disclaimer, I was one of those guys pushing patience back then because everyone of Butch's classes had a strong finish. This one never came around.

Lots of momentum building for a chorus of "told you so" posts tomorrow. Don't know about the rest of you, but I sure am looking forward to that.

A concern I have are the thoughts (there have been numerous) that the talent level on the roster would attract many big name coaches should Butch leave whether voluntarily, or forcefully. The last two classes including this one, blah at best. Now from a SEC standpoint... let's not go there. We really probably should have been 6-6 with current "talent" heading to a bowl game. App St was lucky (fully healthy roster) and a Hail Mary to beat Georgia (I know, I know the play before... that was less lucky IMO). A&M game, folks say we should have won. 7 turnovers are 7 turnovers any way you slice it. No luck involved, just execution. I am praying we lay off 3 stars so early in the process next year. I am also praying we lay off on 3 stars late in the process next year. Rounding out the class with 3 stars is one thing, targeting them is another.
