SEC Coaching Grades

The talent difference is minimal now. It's not like Mac is beating him with with top shelf talent.

I ll take the guy winning the division.

Mac's offense is terrible and he is an offense minded coach. Couple that with his luke warm recruiting it's easy to see that mattress's will soon burn in Gainesville, imo of course.

This is the same guy that has given Mike DeBord an F for his two years in the database and Bob Shoop and A+ for his six years in the database.

Forgive me if I don't put a lot of stock in his grades.

Really? Stupid? Classy.

Did he lose to them in a year when he was expected to compete for a championship... or in a down year? Did he lose to them AND someone comparable to USCe?

They may get "blown up" but that talk has been going on for how long now?

Freeze is a much better coach on game day. That's simply undeniable based on their results.

Lmao 😂 sorry but wow. What is his excuse for falling apart? Why does he get such a great pass? You guys walk by Florida and Georgia to bash Butch. You got double standards. You can't have a debate with someone who has double standards while using circular reasoning.

A VN summary of the thread.
*Excluding Saban, all these coaches have won and lost games they shouldn't have, all these coaches have had up and down years in their careers and they all finished with 8 wins last year.
So they have positives and negatives.. except Jones. He's a sewage dwelling lint licker. :)

Losing 2 games as a double-digit favorite with plenty on the line tends to leave a lasting impression.

Nicely summed up sir

Oh ok.
Thought it might be the -10 v Vandy and -16 v Memphis.
It gets confusing that they both did it but only one of them's terrible for having done so.

Meh. Freeze lost his over a two year period, one of them OOC and neither with anything on the line. Butch's two losses were four weeks apart in the most recent month of play with much on the line. It's understandable as to why folks remember one and not the other.

Ok, should have said Mississippi State and Vandy.

What if CBJ beats Vandy and USCe, do you think that would give him at least an "A"?

If Butch would have run the table in the east it would have improved his standing greatly. It didn't help that he lost to the two worst teams in the east. I don't think he would have deserved an A. But he definitely would have received a "meets expectations"

Saban has lost games he shouldn't have and had down years at least down compared to Bama standards. Tennessee has had down years compared to Tennessee standards which are no where near as high as Bama standards unfortunately.

Jones or Freeze?

Ole Miss is never really expected to win. Sure, if you buy a few top recruits you can sneak up and beat Bama, but let's not pretend that the expectations at Ole Miss will ever be what they are at UT. Ole Miss is the Vanderbilt of the West.

4-4 in conference play in 2016, and 14-18 overall in conference play at UT. No matter which way you grade him, whether it's on 2016 or he entire tenure, that record isn't above a straight 'C' at best.

Pointing out Hugh Freeze's or any other coaches' records doesn't change the numbers above.

I mainly excluded Saban because of the 8 win part. Wouldn't have made much sense to keep him in the comparison.

They were talking about other Coaches vs Jones. I'm fairly certain their record would count. Kind of hard to compare without it.

Hugh Freeze beat Bama.... twice. That's two more times than Tennessee has beaten them in a decade.

It is kinda crazy.
We beat Florida and Georgia in the same year and can't win the east.
Ole Miss beats Alabama two years in a row and can't win the West.
The odds of either of those things happening, are ridiculous.

It was much harder for Tennessee to lose the east than for Ole Miss to win the west.

Holy s###.
I wasn't making a comparison, I was just trying to have a normal conversation about football on a football site. The chances of either not winning the division are unlikely.

Sorry, I forgot where I was. Here let me fix it.
Jones gut punches kids and uses a lot of cliches!

There, all better.
