Ok, build a dumb, extremely overpriced wall.............you think a wall sitting there will stop anyone? The only effective means of border enforcement are personnel enforcing it and also getting a little more strict on hiring of illegals. I am one of the first that want to keep illegals out, but I just don't see how this cluster**** of a "symbol" will be that effective. JMO

Everyone wins except for the American consumer.

Trump gets his wall. His ego gets excited, and amazingly his base praises the move.

Mexico's government doesn't pay a dime. Not. One. Dime.

Mexican companies pass off the increased costs of a 20% tariff by simply increasing the price of goods before taxes.

You and I foot the bill and get screwed, again, by DC. After enough alternative facts are deciminated to the masses, the Trump guard proudly praises Donald, even though a Republican populist just essentially raised our taxes by moving money around.

The average American will not understand the impact of Trump's tariffs and taxes on imports until it hits them in their pockets at Walmart and Kroger.

What's dumb is the amount of taxpayer money we spend on arming NATO and Israel...

I agree it may not be the best deterrent in the world, but it's something where people can see results. I've lost faith in our government restricting corporations from hiring illegals...

We arent building a wall. We are building a border like Israels, designed by the same company. You think illegal terrorists cross that wall in large numbers if at all? What makes you think ours will fail where theirs does not? It is twice as long....thats it. It can be tunneled under...as can anything...but that is about it. We bust tunnels frequently from drug lords now...if huge numbers of illegals are leaving a house or warehouse etc bc there is a tunnel under it...then we can find it. I bet the wall could reduce illegal immigration by 90%...!and that is worth a sum of money that is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount it takes to provide Medicaid food stamps school etc for just 1 years worth of illegal immigrants. I think you greatly greatly underestimate how much money we spend yearly on illegals.

We need to build this barrier...**** the border...provide a path to citizenship for tjose here who have never been criminals etc amd let them start paying taxes like the rest of us. That wall will be paid for in a year without costing taxpayers a dime more...and mexico will get far less money sent back western union when all those workers are giving up 30% of what they earn just like the rest of us. How about that? What part of this post is untrue or illogical? Its not...you just want to paint anyone who believes in the wall as an idiot because you dont like trump.

Edit...and if they dig tunnels into this country...are they gonna send people thru at 5000 dollars a head for 150 lbs...or kilos of heroin and cocaine at 50,0000 dollars a kilo? You think people with enough respurces to dig these tunnels are gonna traffic PEOPLE? thats a terrible investment. They will traffic dope for 1000x the profit. Think about it.

Thats like looking at a 2 story house under construction and complaining after the first day of construction there is no 2nd floor. This will be a game of chess with the Mexicans and the first move was to threaten a 20% tariff. Common sense says those goods can't be sold in the US at those prices because they are no longer competitive. We are the buyer and they are the seller in a buyers market. Lets see what move they make. Having operated a US factory in Mexico under the NAFTA agreement I can tell you the original equation was we ship them raw materials duty free and they ship back finished product duty free, win win. They decided it was cheaper to import those raw materials from China, China made sure of that. Mexicans and Chinese are loving it. We are getting the s**t end.

As an example, if they come back and say all raw materials must be purchased from USA in order to ship duty free then wall is paid for immediately.

Doubt it will be that simple but at least wait until negotiations are over to pick a winner.

Do any of you cheering the wall and tariffs on Mexican products understand the notion of a global supply chain?

What are you going to do when your coal rolling 'tard mobile needs a new alternator and the OEM plant is in Mexico? Or say you own a company that produces a finished product that relies on raw material only found in Mexico?
