SAIP on Cam Sutton:

PFF analyst Bobby Slowik, a former NFL assistant coach with the Washington Redskins, was immediately drawn to Tennessee CB Cameron Sutton on Day 1 after Sutton showed incredible change of direction when staying on top of a slant-and-go against Western Kentucky wide receiver Taywan Taylor. One play does not a player make, but it showed off Sutton’s athleticism and backed up his strong on-field play that saw him grade out as one of the nation’s top corners in 2014. After a down 2015, he was on his way to a strong 2016 before injury slowed him down and limited him to 438 snaps. Perhaps most important for his value, Sutton has been lining up all over the field, taking some snaps in the slot and even at safety and he hung with O.J. Howard on one route, forcing an incompletion. In a deep cornerback class, Sutton could become an excellent value pick, especially if he shows well at multiple positions this week.

Ha-Ha, this place is hilarious--- folks on here actually taking the time to try and justify and make a case why 3* are basically just as good as 4-5* by taking the wait and see and develop approach and weighing whether or not one may have a 4* grade on one service... SMH. 95% of the time, 4-5* are safer bets and a quicker return on investment if you have a descent coaching staff...
Sidenote---- AL has gotten to such a lopsided and bloated level, it is crazy to see 5* still go knowing they will be 2-3rd string starting off with the chance down the road to see the field over going to another competitive school where they could start day 1....

That's obviously the best case scenario. I'm skeptical, but that's nothing new.

To your final point though, if the theme of this class is targeted depth, it's a major fail by the staff as far as strategy goes. Depth is obviously very important, but we need to replace the top end talent that is starting to filter out most of all.

I'm having a hard time figuring why you are not on someone's staff and a P5 team at that, anyone with your expertise should be utilized. No need to waste it on us..

Hey Nick... shouldn't you be out recruiting and eating Little Debbie cakes instead of trolling a Vol message board?

Wait, so I clearly missed this-- 5* RB Laborn is committed to FL St and Akers goes and commits to them as well? Who committed first? I thought the reason Akers picked FL St was because Cook was leaving and no one else really there and he could step right in? He could be just as easily sharing snaps at FL St as he would UT....

Honestly if he had the mental fortitude for it and more of a team first attitude, I think he could make a really good H-Back in the NFL. He's got the size, speed, skill set, etc. to make it work.

I'm just not sure if the rest is there.
I agree but I don't think it's in his DNA. At one time I thought he was the toughest guy on the team. He seemed to love contact. He seemed to enjoy punishing tacklers at the end of a run so much so I thought for his sake he should stop. And then for some reason that all changed.

Hmmm. That is interesting. I have always thought the opposite. 5 star linemen usually still need a year to adjust to SEC play. There are plenty of examples of 3 star OL that have developed into great players. I think linemen are the hardest for the services to grade. To me, I like 4 and 5 star skill players. But that's an interesting point of view.

I agree that lineman are hard to predict, but I would still say that 4 and 5 star lineman "hit" at a higher rate than the 3 star. But both lines are positions that you can't really "scheme" around.

Offensively, if you win at the LOS consistently you can make an average RB look good, and no matter how good the coverage is if your QB is gonna find someone if he has 5+ seconds.

Defensively, if you disrupt at the LOS your LBs don't have to fight off blocks and your DBs only have to hold for a few seconds/you don't have to blitz so you can drop 7.

I don't mean to rationalize because overall this class is still not where it needs to be, but I'm just saying I would rather consistently have the best lines than any other position. Basically I would rather have a class anchored by a Trey Smith/LaBryan Ray than a Tee Higgins/DeAngelo Gibbs.

I don't think anyone is denying or downplaying the importance of getting 4 and 5* recruits. I also don't think there are that many posters on here overstating the value and assured future production of 3* recruits. Certain posters continue to beat dead horses (one of them being our recruiting), so other posters simply point out that 3* recruits can have success. I can't recall many posters ever saying they would rather have a 3* than a 4* or 5* without very good reason.

Also, what has hurt a lot of fanbases is making Bama the standard. The level at which Saban has them won't be replicated, IMO, for a long, long time.

FSU's starting RB position is much more open than UT's. I would rather compete with another incoming freshman than an established starter that likely hasn't tapped their full potential.
