I want to add my favorite, I just read
" Meyer and Harbaugh are real coaches, just look at the record books"

Fast forward discussion to us beating those exact same teams in bowl games

" I don't even count us beating up on mediocre Big Ten teams, means nothing"

Falls under "every team we beat is garbage"

Subcategory - "every team we WILL beat in the future is garbage"

Last year's class was good minus one glaring miss, no HS DTs.

Very bad miss. Can't do that. Ever.

Recruiting should start yearly with DT at the top of the priority list. If we are gonna drop off some bags of cash it needs to be at the home of a 300 lb 4* or 5* DT.

Maybe we absolutely nailed evaluations but you can't deny the make up of this class being different. There are more low 3 stars (5.6 or below) than first two classes combined.

Agreed you can't ignore it.

I will say though that we do have way more depth at most positions then what the program has when we were recruiting the 2014 and 15 classes so a lot of these guys who maybe are ranked lower due to not being physically ready early on, will actually have the time to properly develop.

So maybe we could have some guys that actually do get to have the more natural progression most 3*'s take unlike what ours have.

I think this is the one area that Bama has over most!! How they get the 4* to sit and wait just blows me away. Especially with the got to have it now that kids are today!! I really think you have a good point, and with upgrades in coaching and strength programs we will be better at getting them ready.

this class is a result of 8-4, no SEC championship game, no Sugar Bowl, and Butch on loose ground without anything to sell... it will continue to get worse if something doesn't change... maybe, just maybe if we can stay healthy next season and JG turns into a superstar out of the gate, we can get some excitement and juice back into the program...

You realize my post was in reference to the ESPN coverage and not the performance of the team?

It read funny. So I reciprocated. Don't throw underhand.

In hindsight, I am not so sure this is the case. The issue with Higgins, Stevens, and Phillips instate all occurred before the season started. Guys like Akers are going to high level schools where they will push for a playoff birth next year. We are competing with Alabama for Ray. A Sugar Bowl birth would not have changed that. Even if you think we get Corker or some other recent recruit we missed on, they weren't moving our class into the top 5. Beginning of the year, I thought wins would help, but I don't think so anymore. The instate guys were turned off by UT, and that wasn't changing.

Now, I do agree that it can get worse if these current players don't develop.

New staff members on the recruiting trail will be big too. Butch's pitch has probably gotten a little stale, but the new guys will have more to sell recruits and their families.

I agree... I got flamed a bit for stating that Canales has experience, but Weinke has enough and would add some excitement... throw in Wes Welker in QC and I guarantee we perk some kid's interest we would not get without these guys. Warren will get some things going and hopefully will finally clean up the hot mess that is our secondary... I just hope for the program's sake Scott doesn't lay an egg next season with a new QB

This may just be coincidence and i hope im just reading too much into this and Dobbs genuinely has interest from NFL teams but is it not slightly weird to anyone else that the only 3 teams that ive seen him in contact with so far have all had ties to the university?

Raiders- Reggie Mckenzie
Browns- Haslam
Titans- In state pro team that im sure Butch has a good relationship with

Maybe theyre all trying to show some interest to get more teams to look at him or maybe theyre genuinely interested in drafting him. I hope its the latter obviously, would love to see him kill it at the next level but i just found it to be a bit odd.

Two big factors with instate kids are
A. Lack of loyalty in this generation. Im a millenial and about a decadenolder than these kids and saw first hand in my own group the effects of Tn not being truly relevant. People dont just back their home state anymore unless theyre hugely successful or the flashy "IT" team. Its a ton of bandwaggoning. We still havent been dominant since then and are seeing some of that backlash.
B. Lots of transplants. Some of the best recruiting areas in Tn are also job hotbeds that are bringing lots of workers from out of state who dont have ties to the UT tradition and that affects their kids loyalty as well.

Like I said earlier Dobbs would be a perfect back up for Mariota

We'll see what the consensus is about Dobbs at the end of the week. I saw a couple of reports today and not a single QB was mentioned, and somebody at WalterCampfootball.com commented, in a blanket statement, that it was an unimpressive group of QBs. I don't think it was an accident that the Raiders and Browns talked to Dobbs. We'll see.
