LOL!!!

How about this...

I think the D is going to better coached next year.

I think the offense will take a step back but begin to gel as the season progresses and eventually be just as explosive as it was this year.

I think the hype over JG will lead to inflated and unrealistic expectations but he'll be a solid QB with the potential to surpass those expectations before he leaves.

I think Kelly is Travis Stephens, Jr and plays like an angry SOB whose attitude and demeanor will be infectious in the best way.

There...better? 😉

I like this.

In the back of mind I'm thinking this signing class is gonna be a "sleeper" class. We already have a top ten rating in many services despite all the naysayers on here and may finish very strong. Not a sunshine pumper but just optimistic. The coaches must see something in all these 3 star guys. Their film looks good and offers look good despite the star ratings. Thus the sleeper thought.
It's also been in the back of mind that this class has been the object of quality depth for the coaching staff. It's a big class.

That's obviously the best case scenario. I'm skeptical, but that's nothing new.

To your final point though, if the theme of this class is targeted depth, it's a major fail by the staff as far as strategy goes. Depth is obviously very important, but we need to replace the top end talent that is starting to filter out most of all.

😆

I've never been shy about my opinions. I just don't post them over and over and over like some who shall not be named.

Here are a few of them that aren't popular at the moment:

I think Butch is an average to above average coach who gets too tight in big games, costing us in the win column.

I think his greatest strength is recruiting and off the field activities but it's beginning to suffer.

I am more than partial to the idea of Butch being let go next year (assuming he under performs) to usher in Chip Kelly...but that's about the only scenario that I'm partial to Butch leaving.

I think next year is make or break, but not win or be fired. Hyams said 8 wins is enough to keep Butch...sigh...enough said.

I wish I had a sunnier outlook for the program but there's been too many underwhelming performances under CBJ for me to feel differently.

Sorry...

Not going to argue with anything you said here.

I will add a touch of optimism though.

CBJ is without a doubt one of the hardest-working coaches around. He truly seems to want to improve the program constantly.
I don't think it'll take much more than Scott being a good OC, Shoop turning it around the way we all expect and Jones accepting that he will have to take a few more on field chances against the best teams out there.

I believe the first as possible.
I believe Shoop is very likely.
I believe Jones' desire to improve, opens the door for the 3rd.

Well that was a bit of an afterthought but this class isn't devoid of stars either.

Don't understand the depth talk. Every class is about developing depth. Recruit the absolute you best you can.

Same was said multiple times last year. "the 16 class won't be as highly rated because it's smaller & more of a depth clsss"

Made no sense then, makes no sense now.

I bought it last year, but I was in a different place with respect to my view of the program. One big reason was we all thought a monster 2017 class was inevitable.

Now, two depth classes in a row will not be all that different than what Dooley produced.

No, No part of me wants Dooley over Butch. But his last two class rankings were very similar to where 2016 and 2017 will likely fall.

Don't get too caught up in the stars and team rankings game. The 2016 class was a really, really good class. It had some guys who were ranked too high (Kongbo) and some kids who were too low (JG and Warrior for example). When all these kids have played and graduated, I think it might be Jones' best class.

Now 2017, just doesn't look that great. A couple of studs and a lot of question marks. But considering where we are as a football program right now, it could be a hell of a lot worse. It sure ain't the #9 class in the country though. That's silly.

Until there is actual evidence of that, it's no more than wishful thinking.

Name the question marks then. I keep hearing this from your side, so go ahead and name them.

I am with you on the 16 class. But giving up on Kongbo is silly, he very well could end up being a game changer. We all knew he was raw. We just forgot what that meant.

I'm not giving up on Kongbo at all, but he was not a 5-star recruit and I don't think he is going to turn into one. I think he can be a nice contributor if he can hang with it, but he was overrated as a recruit. jmo (and others).

As for question marks, outside of Smith and Chandler, and maybe Ignont, I think you have a class of question marks. And that includes Gray. It is what it is, and maybe they'll all be gamers. That's not typically how it goes though.

Well there is no actual evidence to the contrary either.

A little bit, but not enough to make a case. Their freshman season is in the books. Some showed various levels of potential, some didn't play. Perhaps because some didn't show enough to play, some weren't ready, etc.

Of those that did play, I didn't see anything that logically allowed me to arrive at the conclusion that we should throw out the rankings and say this will end up being Butch's best class.

Byrd is one of the best athletes on the team, and if the staff comes to their senses and puts him on defense where he belongs, we'll have a lockdown corner. Most of the OL recruits look to be very athletic and strong, and should be good players.

JG and Warrior will both be starters from here on out barring injury. Osborne is going to be very good. Buchanan and B. Johnson are both great finds as well. It's a good class.

So in your estimation literally the whole class is garbage? And Kongbo is going to be more than a "nice contributor" imo. He just needs refined, but he's getting there. It is undeniable that he has 5* athletic ability.
