The discussion on the Electoral College is interesting but mostly wrong. Perhaps it would benefit from someone who was there. Moi.

The part giving each state 2 votes for their 2 senators had nothing to do with slavery. It had nothing to do with limiting the democratic aspect of the election, though several of the Founders feared absolute democracy.

The Constitution required 9 states to ratify, or it would become a dead letter. The smaller states feared being ignored and overruled by the larger states.

The 2 extra votes for every state was a compromise, a bribe to get them to vote in favor. This was primarily for the benefit of Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Delaware, the smallest of the states needed no such inducement. It was the first state to ratify.

As everyone knows, there is a movement at present to modify or eliminate the Electoral College. There is another movement that few seem to be aware of. It is to bring suit to the Supreme Court for a declaration that the Electoral College was overturned by enactment of the 14th Amendment. The former seems to have a better chance but, though most are hot for change right now, we have a tendency to become distracted rather quickly. So, the odds are nothing will be changed in the near term.

IMO popular vote would be devastating to the country in the long run. Socialist democracy if not worse would ensue. People like free ****.

One has to do with passing laws, and the other has to do with electing our nation's leader. But yeah, totally the same thing.

What does it say when one party fights vehemently the thought of having to prove by photo Id that you are who you say you are before you can cast your ballot?

It's not just the Mexicans that are at issue here. Many other nationalities and it's a gateway for Islamic terrorist as well not to mention all the contraband.

We have technology to detect and prevent the tunnels. These can be installed during wall construction.

Why do they think it is ok but to have a open cheese border with Mexico?

So you're good with just having open borders? Letting anybody in with no screening whatsoever?

I lived in a border state for 15 years. Yes I feel pretty safe with open borders which is basically what we have now seeing as much like the drug war we spend millions in a failing effort.

You want to stop terrorism you stop the reason for it not build some stupid wall that will supposedly keep them out. Most of them do not come through Mexico anyway, there are many ways to get to the states and walking through a desert is not preferable.
