EC was established in the constitution and stated that they had to meet (travel) to cast the votes of the state they represent. Then electricity was invented, then the telegraph. It's an antiquated system of electing a president and needs reform. Every votes counts in electing other representatives so why not the President? The checks and balances of the Presidency lie within the popular vote of the people for the elected officials of each state. Dems have been saying the EC was outdated for years and President Trump said its “a disaster for a democracy.” Republican voters alike agreed with Trump on this when they thought he was going to loose big but now they are trying to say its great and trying to infer what the intentions of our founding fathers were.

Jefferson was upset with the changes made to accommodate the Southern states and yes, I know he owned slaves. Georgia and others would not have signed the Declaration and we would not have had independence in the 18th century if they had tried to make all men free. It was not the time to do it if they were going to have a chance and be united against England. Learn more than just what you see on the surface about the whys and methods instead of just end results concerning history. The forefathers knew the irony of declaring all men free when slavery existed. They had to do one think first before doing anything about slavery and that was gaining independence.

The Convention was held in 1787. New York didn't fully abolish slavery until 1827.

Maybe we can limit the entirety of New England to two senators? It' a pretty small area geographically and with technology they really have no need for 12. Hell, Texas is bigger and more populated and they just have the 2.

All states have equal representation in the Senate regardless of size. Each state has number of Representatives in the House of Representatives based on the population of that State.

Ah. So you understand that we are not a direct democracy and the point of the electoral college is not the accommodation of anachronistic technology but a carefully crafted compromise.
