A true VFL passed away last night. Daniel Smith was paralyzed from the waist down. He got an infection he couldn't feel and it went to his blood stream.

He loved his Vols. and cheered them on for the last 40 years. He use to come watch me play in school. He was a great guy and a true VFL.

It's not 2017 that worries me. 2018 could be a very tough year, and the beginning of a slide back to long term mediocrity. Having big seasons could spring Kelly, Jennings, KMac, Kirkland, and/or Kongbo to declare for the draft. Now, in no way will they all have that good of a year in 2017, but the overall talent has not kept up with the downward trend in recruiting, and to some extend, the attrition. We've certainly gotten a few potential high level players in the last class and this class, but like it or not, that's just not good enough in the SEC.

Have to hope the fence is rebuilt around the state for 2018 class.

That's terrible. We lost another.

His family will be in my prayers.

I hope we end up with Conliffe, a WR, and Ray/Sterling. One thing this staff does is plan out when kids announce and it seems like they always have a good thing hidden so they can pull it out to build momentum. I think they will have a big fish for NSD. I am hoping it is Ray.

Regardless, one of the best things I have heard so far about our recruiting is the family-like atmosphere at Tennessee. I think that is very promising to hear multiple recruits speak out about how special the people are at Tennessee and how it feels like a big family. Also, I like that our recruits and players have such strong relationships. You will push yourself harder and go to battle stronger when your brothers are beside you. That means a lot more than a trashy article from somebody not connected to the program defining our culture.

As thin as we are at dt why do we only have one dt committed so far? Tuttle and McKenzie can go after next season

Tuttle won't go after next season. Apparently he's making good progress, but I think, assuming he plays next year, a full season to get fully back.

All of those guys having good enough seasons to go to the NFL would be a fantastic problem to have.

It would be highly likely UT would have a quality W-L record, and would pretty much bury the negative recruiting play that UT isn't putting guys in the league...And I have to think would lead to improved recruiting.

Tuttle and McKenzie's injuries really hurt our defense this season. I think losing those two guys were the biggest loses. JRM really hurt as well. I do not know how healthy Tuttle or McKenzie will be by next season, but I hope McKenzie will at least be ready to go.

We will have McKenzie, Vickers, Bain, Johnson, Bennett, Crosby, Picou, and maybe Butler since he is currently at 280lbs. And Tuttle can rejoin them once healthy.

I am hoping Rock will make our current players stronger and turn some of these young guys into men so they can contribute immediately. Barnett will be tough to replace, but I really do expect the DEs to play really good next season. They may even improve overall when we can put two effective guys on the edges.

Because of someone who wanted to be added to a lawsuit beneficiary list iyam.

College football player having any reaction other than leaving the area with due haste when a woman goes crazy mode is stupidity.

Unless you play at Oklahoma, then you knock them out.

Kongbo played pretty well inside when he had to at the end of the season and in the bowl game. Not sure if he moves back to end next year or not.

Agreed that if they all have good enough seasons to go pro, it should be a good year. But even if it's a couple of them, it may not mean we have a spectacular W-L record. Regardless, beyond next year would be a question mark, especially if we are counting on a theoretically good freshman class to make up for a two year recruiting decline and departures.

If Kongbo buys into playing D tackle for an entire year like he did in the bowl game he will be special inside. Could be a stronger faster Malik Jackson.

Kongbo can play every down inside and allow for supreme versatility and help save snaps and allow Mack & tuttle to rotate more
