We were overmatched in some areas for sure. But your mentality is just not how I'm ever going to think as a TN fan. I want Bama. Give me Bama. That's OUR biggest rival and we haven't beaten them in forever. We never will if we always avoid the game.
It doesn't really matter now. But I would have loved to see a rematch. We would have at least known the level of physicality it would take the 2nd time around. Florida didn't have that experience.
You never know, Dobbs could have had the game of his life. Anything could have happened. You definitely don't get any glory if you don't play in the game.
You would love to see our second string defensive ends get mauled playing defensive tackle? I think you guys are completely missing the point here I'm not saying I wouldn't have wanted a rematch I'm saying because of our injuries the rematch still would have been pointless.
I'm not trying to persuade your line of thinking because you will always take the negative road whether I disagree or not just saying we didn't go into 07 sec championship game thinking we're going to get geblown out like we would have this year if we made it right? Because in 2007 we all believed UT had a really good shot to compete against lsu and win
It wasn't. Looking at cumulative stats is of very little value.
Debord could not make half time adjustments well in his first season. He did not game plan well in his second season.
Yes, they scored 29 pts. per game in the first 8 games in 2016. Yet, they only scored 9 points per game in the first half of that stretch, which included 24 points in one game (Va Tech). This crappy output directly led to losing 3 of their first 5 SEC games. They simply got too far behind to catch up at times. It almost got them against Appy and UGA as well. Last play type wins.
The year before we all know how bad he stunk it up in the second half because of losses in games they had leads. He would not adjust at half and would sit on the ball in the second half.
I posted another one. He was an All-State performer and is 6'0 170lbs now. Runs a 4.30 too. Ran 4.33 at Auburn and has numerous sub 4.4s across the south. Teams were worried because he was 152lbs a couple of months ago. Going to be a monster CB in college. Kid is a baller. And a freak athlete.
I just want to see us get back to playing disciplined football. Take care of the ball and tackle well. If we had done that last year we would have been in Atlanta.
You mean 8-4 type good, right. I'll move on from Debord when the rest of the posters on here move on from how good/great he was.
Prediction: Scott is already better.
8-4 is good.
10-2 is great.
12-0 is elite.
Debord was good and I agree that Scott can be better. I think he can be great or even elite. The question is, will we give him time or be wanting him fired halfway through the season?
Why put those expectations on him when he has literally no body of OC work to base them on?
Completely disagree we were way overmatched because of our injuries now if we were healthy against bama then I would agree
I'm not putting expectations for this year. I think he will be good this year but has the potential to be great. I'm just saying our fan base isn't likely to give him the time that he needs to become the elite play calling I think he can eventually become.
I get it, the fan base sucks and isn't patient, but the evidence that he will be an elite play caller and the evidence that we will be a catastrophic play caller is virtually the same. I'm asking without malice or guile, where do you see the potential for him to be great so strongly?
