Exactly. We have all kinds of rights to protect dogs for example because they don't have a voice and are innocent creatures.

So why shouldn't there be laws protecting a living being?

Wouldn't everyone agree a living being that is forming into a human is much more valuable to society than a dog?

However I can't go out in the back yard and shoot my dog but a woman can terminate a living being because we can't tell her what to do?

I am not against adoption as an alternative and think it's a wonderful thing for an adult couple to take in a child and love it/raise it as their own.

What I am against is the gov't making laws that direct citizens in what they can and can't do with their own bodies. Every person has the ability to decide what's right for them.

This is a tough one to argue.........

I guess we have to decide if we live in a free society.......

On a personal level I cannot justify ending a life at any point......

There are laws against prostitution. There are laws against having sex with a goat for example. My point is we have laws that restrict what people can do for a number of reasons.

You can't legislate morality......pure and simple.

If my family was legitimately threatened I could end a life with a clear conscience.

Let me ask you this. How do we most commonly determine death? Usually death is pronounced when the heart stops beating. Then by that same logic shouldn't life be determined when there is a heartbeat? That is beside the point anyway. No matter when you recognize life there is the potential for life from conception on and that too needs to be protected IMO.

No matter what you believe you have to define when life starts.

After that, it is all a cakewalk because obviously you cannot abuse or nelgect a child.

The argument is made often that you cannot legislate morality but we do it every day. This country was based on morals and so were its laws.
