Doug Matthews comments y'day on AD Search

Agreed. Bill Battle Coached at Tennessee and has gone on to have tremendous success at Alabama as AD. Why can't we expect similar results?

Bill Battle hasn't coached since he was 35. He wasn't exactly a "football coach" when he was named AD at Alabama.

Here's a theory on why the AD hire is taking so long;

Some with a lot of influence may believe 2017 will be Butch's last season on Rocky Top.

By delaying the AD hire, the next AD doesn't have any fingerprints on the latest version of the greatest staff in America. The hiring decisions will have been exclusively Butch's.

Just a theory and far-fetched at that, but anything is possible.

Thoughts?

I'm encouraged to know Haslem has the final say in this matter. I mean look how he's doin with the Browns!

Some of you can't keep your Haslams straight. Daddy Haslam is the booster they are talking about, not his sons, Cleveland Brown Haslam or Gov. Haslam.

I'm sorry but Phillip Fulmer has as much business being CEO of Krispy Kreme as he does being AD.
really confused is that a sideways endorsement? from what people that hate him tend to say Krispy Creme CEO was what he was best suited for... just saying, I'm pretty good at reading the invisible blue ink but you threw me for a loop there.

I'm confused. So which committee are we going with for the final results: Parker search firm, the one out of Nashville, or the internal committee?

It will go through Davenport. And based on current events in the search timeline, I have a feeling the more some rumor starters stir up the media dogs, the slower she might work.

But Jimmy, the owner of the Browns, is on the six person search committee.

The AD search is taking so long because Beverly Davenport is still in Cincinnati. And as our first female chancellor, she is going to do her due diligence and interview each applicant personally to try and steer UTK away from the Title IX mess. Her priorities are not yours. Far fetched? Try full of 5h1t.

Serious question, what is point of search committee if hiring a search firm and which firm are they choosing? I heard turnkey was mentioned, is that the one that the vandy guy runs or is this a third firm that has now been mentioned?

I can't remember if it was the same one or not. But the sports section of today's KNS shows a six person committee to advise Beverly Davenport.

The point of hiring the search firm is obvious; it is to gauge interest of AD candidates nationwide. It is either to be thorough or to at least appear to be thorough. But since NSD is going to happen well before the first interview, there is no point in rushing it now.

Main thing I feel everybody needs to do is let the lady do her job. It is not a coincidence that they hire a woman as chancellor on the heels of a title IX settlement. No matter what our opinion on who gets the AD job is, it's up to Davenport to make the decision.

Let's just hope she gets it right.

Haslam wants a "yes man" for an AD. That's the same reason we can't get a big name coach to come here.

Not sure about this. Other than this site, the info I heard about talking to Gruden came from someone who knew the Haslam's. If they wanted Gruden, they weren't looking for a "yes man."

If the Haslam's could get Gruden, he'd be sitting in the Brown's HC's office everyday.

Is it such a horrible thing for us to have 5 solid candidates for AD?

Blackburn
Fulmer
Davis
Battle
Manning

None of them could be the Home Run hire, but none I them would be a total bust either.

Release the Beast!

2 legit candidates among those 5. Battle, really? Manning, maybe/hopefully one day.

I'm interested to hear Doug tomorrow. Last Sunday he kind of got the Fulmer candidacy rolling in my mind. He never used a name but it seemed obvious. Based on what he said last week, I figured this was a done deal. I'd like to know if he thinks something changed.

Harbaugh doesn't have to look at a chart to know when to kick a field goal or ask an assistant coach to tell his DB's to turn around and look for a ball.

Harbaugh has gone 10-3 each of his first two years. Butch went 5-7 and 7-6. Jim also inherited a 5-7 team. I'd pay $9 million and go 10-3 for Butch's first two years after going 5-7. The future looks good for UM. We've hit our ceiling.

My goodness...if you look at the Michigan roster when Harbaugh got there compared to ours when Butch get here, it isn't even close. But keep putting your head in the sand and typing garbage.

I don't know where Donna Thomas gets her strength and clout but anyone so stupid as to leave Robert R. Neyland off the Hall of Fame initial class isn't worthly of what to select for lunch in my book much less an AD. Without Neyland, that place wouldn't be near the place it is today. Its like the Yankees building monument park and leaving Babe Ruth out.

Donna Thomas was given the responsibility of overseeing the Hall of Fame, but she did not come up with the standards for the first class, that was dictated to her. Those standards were set to only include student athletes in the first class, not coaches or administrators.

Davis has no interest in leaving television, and could not serve on the search committee because of his commitments to the NFL network leading up to the draft. Battle has cancer and is retiring for good. Remember, he came out of retirement from leading the business he sold to IMG for $1 billion to take the Alabama job. Manning is not going to be an athletic director, particularly since he serving on the search committee.

Here's some more garbage for ya.
These are the rivals recruiting rankings dating back from 2009.

2009: UT 10, UM 8
2010: UT 9, UM 21
2011: UT 13, UM 21
2012: UT 17, UM 7
2013: UT 21, UM 5
2014: UT 5, UM 31
2015: UT 5, UM 51
2016: UT 10, UM 5

Jim Harbaugh inherited classes finishing 7,5,31,51 for an average of 23.25

Butch got 10,9,13,17 averaging 12.25.

I'll stick my head back in the sand now.
